Hello, fellow food lovers. I am excited to share with you a divine creation that I like to call ‘Oyster Sauce Beef.’ Not traditionally a New York dish, I know, but hey! Flexibility is the spice of life, right?

Oyster Sauce Beef Recipe

A Beloved Fusion

I have always been enamoured by the eclectic mix of flavors that New York kitchens have to offer. From mouth-watering pizza to decadent cheesecake, each dish whispers tales of diverse cultures merging into each other. It is this very love for diverse cuisines that leads me to experiment and explore recipes from around the globe.\nThe Oyster Sauce Beef is indeed one such experiment. Heavily influenced by the Chinese Beef and Broccoli, yet with my own twist that gives it the essence of the NYC culinary landscape.

From the East With Love

The recipe draws its inspiration from renowned Chinese chef Martin Yan, whose deep understanding of the Chinese delicacies never cease to inspire me.

Handling a sizzling hot wok filled with the rich aroma of oyster sauce coated beef coupled with the vibrant colors of bell pepper, broccoli and carrots can indeed feel like becoming the maestro of a beautiful food orchestra.

The culinary experience would be incomplete without the exotic condiments. A careful blend of ginger, garlic, and the hint of sesame oil make the flavors come alive. Yes, it’s this exotic eastern cuisine blending with my deep-seated love for the New York palate that makes Oyster Sauce Beef so special.

The Perfect Anchoring Dish

What I absolutely adore about Oyster Sauce Beef is its ability to anchor down a meal. Indeed, it pairs wonderfully with a variety of sides from steaming jasmine rice, to a fresh, light salad, or even a plate of vegetable stir fry. If you want to keep things interesting, serve it alongside a plate of Chinese Noodles.

Serving the rich Oyster Sauce Beef with complementary sides not only makes the dining experience wholesome but also turns a simple meal into a classy gourmet dinner. Certainly, a testament to the amazing culinary range of this beautiful New York City!

Ultimately, the reason behind my unwavering love for this recipe is the ample room it offers for your own creativity. Experiment with the vegetables or adjust the condiments to your liking. And as always, don’t forget to enjoy every step of the blissful cooking journey.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 lbs beef steak
  • 6 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 inch piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
ALLERGENS: Shellfish (oyster sauce), soy,

Method

Step One

To begin with, slice the 2 lbs of beef steak into thin strips and set aside. Take a medium-sized bowl and combine the 6 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1/4 cup of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Dive the beef steak into this mixture and allow it to marinate for at least 1 hour.

Step Two

After the steak has marinated, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and sliced ginger to the pan. Cook these for about 1-2 minutes until they are fragrant and golden brown.

Step Three

Next, add the sliced onion to the pan. Cook this for a further 1-2 minutes until the onions have slightly softened. Then, add the marinated beef to the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through.

Step Four

It is now time to add the vegetables. Add the broccoli florets, bell pepper strips and carrot strips to the pan. Stir-fry these with the beef for 2-3 minutes until they are crispy yet tender.

Step Five

Lastly, add the chopped green onions and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to the pan. Stir everything together to combine. Season the dish with salt and pepper to taste. Once this is done, turn off the heat.

Step Six

Your Oyster Sauce Beef is now ready to be served. You can serve this dish hot alongside cooked rice or noodles for a hearty and flavor-packed meal.
