I adore the zing when I cook and indulge in the Chicken Soup with Boldo and Noodles, a dish that perfectly marries hardiness with an infusion of sublime flavor, an ode to my culinary journey across the plains of Montana. This recipe is an amalgamation of deep traditions, encapsulating the fresh, earthy goodness of the produce paired with the robust flavors of the farm-raised poultry. Just like my other favorite cuisines, such as bison burgers and huckleberry pies, this humble meal comes with a strong character that speaks volumes about its roots.
A Powerhouse of Nutrition
Favoring well-being without compromising on taste, the Chicken Soup with Boldo and Noodles truly is a meal for all seasons. The protein-packed chicken, nutritive broth, and noodles work together, creating a dish that is both satisfying and nourishing.
The soup’s key ingredient, Boldo, is often whispered about in wellness circles. This leaf, indigenous to Chile, is laden with health benefits. Jam-packed with antioxidants, boldo is a natural digestive aid that also enhances liver function. So, with every spoonful of this soup, you’re not only satiating your appetite but also nourishing your body.
The Flavor Profile and Pairings
Every element in this recipe contributes to a unique flavor profile. The simmering of chicken with boldo leaves infuses the broth with a delicate yet substantial depth, the chopped garlic and onions confer a beautiful base note, and a squeeze of lemon juice sparks an invigorating twist.
If you’re seeking a perfect culinary ensemble, I highly recommend pairing this soup with a crispy garlic bread or perhaps a fresh Greek salad. These dishes beautifully accentuate the comforting nature of the soup, making for an enchanting dining experience.
As with all recipes I adore, the Chicken Soup with Boldo and Noodles undergoes changes and adjustments as my palate explores new flavors. But its core essence, that powerful blend of nurturing and nourishing, remains unchanged. This dish is a warm invitation to savor, to enjoy and most importantly, to remember that good food is not only about exotic ingredients but also about the love and care infused within every simmering pot.
What You’ll Need
- 2 large chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
- 6 cups of chicken broth
- 1 cup of uncooked noodles
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 stalks of celery, chopped
- 2 boldo leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lemon, juiced
Method
Step One
Start by seasoning the chicken breasts with a bit of salt and pepper. After this, heat the olive oil in a large soup pot over medium heat. Once hot, add in the chicken breasts and cook them until both sides are brown. This should take about 5 to 7 minutes per side. Once done, remove them from the pot and set them aside.
Step Two
In the same pot, add the chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped carrots, and chopped celery. Stir them around a bit to coat them in the oil and chicken drippings, then let them cook until the onions become translucent and the carrots begin to soften. This should take around 5 to 7 minutes.
Step Three
Now, put the chicken breasts back into the pot. Add the chicken broth and the boldo leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. Cover the pot with a lid and let the soup cook for around 20 to 25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
Step Four
Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pot again. Use a couple of forks to shred it into bite-sized pieces, then return it to the pot.
Step Five
At this point, add the uncooked noodles to the pot. Let the soup continue to simmer until the noodles are fully cooked. This should take about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the type of noodles you’re using.
Step Six
Finish your soup by stirring in the fresh lemon juice, this will give it a bit of a fresh and tangy kick. You can also adjust the salt and pepper at this point, adding more to taste if necessary. Then your Chicken Soup with Boldo and Noodles is ready to serve and enjoy.
