A Balance of Flavors

This Beef Tacos with Papalo and Avocado recipe is a perfect balance of bold, robust flavors and subtle, soothing ones. The hearty notes of the beef sirloin, seasoned expertly with cumin and chili, provide the strong base, while the vibrancy of the avocado and punchiness of papalo bring a refreshing twist. The freshness of the lime and jalapeno peppers introduces a vibrant kick that leaves a delightful tingle at the back of your throat. The crunch of the onion and the juiciness of the tomatoes blend smoothly into the mix, ensuring every bite is as good as the last.

Healthful and Hearty

Beyond just good taste, this Beef Tacos with Papalo and Avocado recipe is also filled with nutritional elements. The avocado offers a generous dose of monounsaturated fats, known for promoting heart health and boosting brain function. Not to be outdone, the papalo serves as a rich source of Vitamin C, helping to strengthen the immune system. The cilantro not only adds aesthetic value but also contains high quantities of Vitamin K, aiding blood clotting capabilities. Meanwhile, the iron-rich beef sirloin ensures an energy-packed meal.

If you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine, you’ll see similarities between this recipe and classics such as Tacos de Bistec or Carne Asada tacos. The addition of avocado and papalo brings a new twist and complexity that takes the traditional to new heights. This recipe would also pair exceptionally well with a refreshing Mexican salsa or a hearty bowl of Charro Beans.

So there you have it, my Beef Tacos with Papalo and Avocado recipe—a dish that brings together a bounty of flavors, layered ingredients, and nutritional richness, all wrapped up in a humble tortilla. What You’ll Need

  • 2 pounds of beef sirloin
  • 12 tortillas
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 bunch of fresh papalo
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 limes
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 2 jalapeno peppers
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
ALLERGENS: Beef, tortillas (gluten), avocados

Method

Step One

Start by cutting the beef sirloin into small chunks. Set a large skillet over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the beef and cook it until it is browned on all sides. This should take about 5 to 7 minutes.

Step Two

While the beef is cooking, chop the onion, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Cut the avocados in half, remove the seeds and scoop out the flesh. Set these aside for later.

Step Three

Once the beef is browned, add the chopped onions and garlic to the skillet. Cook these until they are soft and translucent. This should take about 3 to 5 minutes.

Step Four

Next, add to the skillet the chopped tomatoes and jalapeno peppers along with the ground cumin, chili powder, black pepper and salt to taste. Let this cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step Five

Mash the avocados in a bowl until they reach your desired consistency. Add a little lime juice and some salt to taste. Set this aside for later.

Step Six

To assemble the tacos, warm the tortillas on a skillet or in the microwave. Place some of the beef mixture onto each tortilla, then top with a spoonful of the mashed avocado. Tear up some fresh papalo leaves and sprinkle them on top of the avocado.

Step Seven

Garnish the tacos with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side. Enjoy your Beef Tacos with Papalo and Avocado.
