Why I Love Indian Keema Paratha Burger

First things first, let’s clear one thing: As an ardent lover of flavorful and comforting food, there’s an Indian recipe that’s quickly making its way to my heart – the Keema Paratha Burger. Keema Paratha Burger

Fusion At Its Best

The Keema Paratha Burger hits the perfect midpoint between East and West, classic comfort with a dash of fearless culinary exploration, not unlike the food cultures I’ve grown up appreciating and exploring in my sunny Californian roots. What fascinates me about this recipe is its scrumptious blend of seasoned lamb or beef, tucked within a homemade, flaky, warm paratha becoming a perfect blend of hearty burger meets Indian flatbread.

This recipe brings to mind the work of a chef I genuinely admire – Sanjeev Kapoor. Kapoor’s talent for harmoniously blending distinct flavors from different parts of the world is inspirational, making Indian cuisine accessible and beloved globally.

Perfect for Any Meal

No matter dinner parties or informal brunches, the Keema Paratha Burger adds a delightful spin on traditional meal settings. The juicy savoriness from the ground meat, fresh crunch from the lettuce and tomato, melted cheddar creating a harmony of textures is hard to resist. Moreover, it partners beautifully with a fresh salad on the side or a bowl of warm soup, allowing everyone to customise their dining experience.

Finally, why do I love this recipe so much? It’s its stunning universality, the way it brings together people around the dining table, and the sheer joy it brings to so many faces when that first bite hits. Ultimately, the Keema Paratha Burger is more than just a meal; it’s an experience, a bridge between cuisines that I love sharing with my beloved readers and, more close to my heart, my adopted kids, who relish the dish as much as I enjoy making it.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 6 lettuce leaves
  • 6 slices tomato
  • 6 burger buns
  • Ketchup or chutney, to serve
ALLERGENS: wheat, dairy (butter, cheddar cheese), beef, lamb, gluten (wheat flour, burger buns)

Method

Step One

In a large bowl, combine wheat flour, melted butter and salt. Gradually add water to form a dough, knead until smooth. Divide the dough into 6 equal parts and set it aside.

Step Two

In a separate bowl, mix together the onions, green chillies, ginger and cilantro. Add the ground lamb or beef, turmeric, chilli powder, coriander, garam masala and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are well combined.

Step Three

Take one part of the dough and flatten it to a circle. Take about 1/6th of the ground meat mixture and place it in the center of the dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough together and pinch to seal, resulting in a stuffed ball. Flatten this ball with a rolling pin ensuring that the filling is evenly distributed.

Step Four

Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a little vegetable oil. Fry the flattened dough ball on both sides until it is golden brown and cooked through. Repeat this process with the remaining portions of dough and filling.

Step Five

Once all the parathas are done, you can assemble the burgers. Start with a paratha as the base, add a slice of cheddar cheese on each followed by a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato. Top it off with another paratha for the bun top. Repeat for each burger.

Step Six

Serve the Keema Paratha Burger with ketchup or chutney on the side. Enjoy!
