There’s something that takes me back to my roots in the vast landscapes of Montana when I prepare vegetable dishes with the simplicity and honesty of our very own Sauteed Pea Sprouts with Garlic recipe. This dish calls forth the freshness of spring and marries it with the bites of garlic which has been a staple in many cuisines worldwide, including Native American cooking. Perhaps it’s the reflection of the simplicity of ranch life, where the taste of the food takes the center stage, or the deep resonance with mother nature that such vegetable-based dishes bring.

Reconnect with Simple, Real Food

The beauty of our Sauteed Pea Sprouts with Garlic lies not just in its taste, but in its simplicity. This recipe takes the spotlight away from complex flavor profiles and focuses instead on enhancing the natural, fresh taste of pea sprouts. By augmenting the flavor of the sprouts with ingredients like garlic, sesame oil, and soy sauce, the recipe helps appreciate each ingredient for what it is.

The pea sprouts, robust with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as some of the B vitamins, offer a wealth of health benefits. They are a treasure trove of antioxidants, including high levels of Vitamin C, which is essential for a healthy immune system.

The Harmony of Flavors and Health Benefits

There is a delightfully harmonious interplay between garlic and pea sprouts in this dish. Garlic is known for its potent medicinal properties (source). It’s high in a sulfur compound known as Allicin, which brings a host of health benefits including combating the common cold, reducing blood pressure, and even offering detoxification effects.

Truly, as we enjoy this delightful plate of Sauteed Pea Sprouts with Garlic, we bask in the combined goodness of delightful flavor, and numerous health advantages.

While this dish can hold its own at any dinner table, it would also pair beautifully with a bison burger or a juicy venison steak. It’s much like a side salad, only warm and with that pleasant bite of sautéed garlic. The flavors are ideally balanced to complement meat dishes, yet the dish can stand tall on its own for a light dinner or lunch option. Either way, this recipe truly encapsulates the spirit of eating authentic, wholesome cuisine.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound pea sprouts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
ALLERGENS: Garlic, Soy

Method

Step One

Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and sauté until it becomes fragrant.

Step Two

Add the pea sprouts into the pan. Toss the sprouts with the sautéed garlic until they all get coated with oil and start to wilt. This should take around 2 to 3 minutes.

Step Three

Season the pea sprouts with salt and white pepper. Continue to sauté for another minute.

Step Four

Add the soy sauce and sesame oil to the pan. Toss everything together until the pea sprouts are evenly covered in the sauces. Sauté for one more minute to let the flavors meld together.

Step Five

Once everything is well combined and the pea sprouts are cooked to your liking, remove the pan from the heat. Serve the sautéed pea sprouts warm as a side dish or incorporate them into your main meal.
