For those looking to take a refreshing detour from the rich, hearty meals I usually whip up – a reflection of my Montana upbringing – I present my Aniseed Myrtle and Mint Tea. This unique fruit-infused concoction offers a perfect balance of tart, sweet, and relaxing flavors that tantalize the palette and soothe the senses.
The Nature of the Infusion
Infusing green tea with aniseed myrtle leaves and fresh mint gives it a distinct flavor profile that is both familiar and adventurous. The aniseed myrtle, native to Australian rainforests, adds a unique touch with its intriguing anise-like taste that subtly infuses the tea, while the mint acts as a refreshing counterpart.
Why I Love the Aniseed Myrtle and Mint Tea Recipe
This Aniseed Myrtle and Mint Tea wonderfully pairs with a classic Montana-style Bison burger or a juicy venison steak, providing an invigorating and light accent amid the rich flavors of these dishes. Furthermore, the tea offers significant health benefits. The aniseed myrtle is recognized for its high antioxidant content, while the peppermint leaves help in soothing digestion. Additionally, green tea is well known for its array of possible health benefits, including heart health and weight management benefits.
While preparing this tea, I loved experimenting with natural sweeteners to balance the herby notes. Ultimately, I found honey to play the perfect role in enhancing the fruitiness of lemon and subtly rounding out the sharper notes from the aniseed myrtle.
Those who enjoy this recipe might also appreciate classic fruit-infused teas, like Citrus Mint Water or Lemon Ginger Water. Regardless of your culinary inclination, this Aniseed Myrtle and Mint Tea is a fresh and healthy addition to your repertoire.
What You’ll Need
- 6 cups of filtered water
- 3 teaspoons of loose-leaf green tea
- 2 tablespoons of dried aniseed myrtle leaves
- Fresh mint leaves from 6 stalks
- 2 tablespoons of natural honey
- 6 lemon slices
Method
Step One
Begin by bringing the 6 cups of filtered water to a boil in a large pot.
Step Two
Once the water has reached a rolling boil, add the 3 teaspoons of loose-leaf green tea, 2 tablespoons of dried aniseed myrtle leaves and the fresh mint leaves from 6 stalks. Submerge them fully in the water.
Step Three
Reduce the heat to a simmer and let the mixture steep for at least ten minutes. This will allow the flavors to infuse into the water.
Step Four
After steeping, strain the mixture to remove the tea leaves and any loose herbs. Return the tea to the pot.
Step Five
Stir in 2 tablespoons of natural honey, adjusting the amount to taste, until it is fully dissolved in the tea.
Step Six
Serve the tea in cups along with a slice of lemon each. The tea can be enjoyed hot, or cooled then refrigerated for a refreshing iced tea later.
