We all have a few recipes that sincerely touch our hearts, and for me, Avocado Leaf Tea is one of those. The incredible blend of the humble avocado leaf, fresh water, the natural sweetness of honey, and the tang of lemon creates a soothing cup of tea that is both comforting and healthful. While this is undoubtedly one of my favorite recipes, its simplicity belies its impressiveness.
Rooted in Wellness
Being situated in the health-conscious valleys of California, my culinary inclinations are heavily tilted towards meals that nurture the body while pleasing the palate. This recipe, rich in various essential nutrients and natively Californian, fits the bill perfectly. Avocado leaves have an abundance of antioxidants, which can support immune health and help combat signs of aging. The humble honey, too, is more than just a sweet treat – it’s an effective cough suppressant and a natural source of energy. Moreover, adding lemon to this recipe not only enriches the flavor but also enhances its health benefits as lemons are high in vitamin C and aids digestion.
The Fusion of Comfort and Health
The Avocado Leaf Tea is a testament to my belief that comfort and health can go hand in hand. Drawing parallels to iconic teas like Masala Chai and unique creations such as Hibiscus Tea, the Avocado Leaf Tea is a warm hug on a cold winter’s night and a soothing balm for a restless mind.
Moreover, this tea with its subtle flavors, complements a wide variety of dishes. It pairs most delightfully with wholesome foods like a mixed greens salad, avocado toast, or even a simple cheese and cracker platter. A warm cup will enhance your meal, taking it from ordinary to gourmet.
So, for those moments when comfort is needed, or when wellness is the priority, a cup of the Avocado Leaf Tea is what I always find myself reaching for. And I hope you’ll experience the same joy and solace as I do, with this time-tested recipe always at hand.
What You’ll Need
- 18 Fresh avocado leaves
- 6 Cups of water
- 3 Tablespoons of honey (optional)
- 6 Slices of lemon (optional)
Method
Step One
Start by rinsing your fresh avocado leaves under cool running water to clean them off any dirt or impurities.
Step Two
Then, in a large saucepan, take 6 cups of water and bring it to a boil over high heat.
Step Three
Once the water is boiling, add the fresh avocado leaves into the boiling water. Reduce the heat and let the leaves simmer in the water for about 10-15 minutes.
Step Four
After simmering, turn off the heat and let the tea steep for a further 15 minutes.
Step Five
Strain the tea into a pitcher, getting rid of the avocado leaves. Your basic avocado leaf tea is ready. You can drink it as is or continue to the next steps to enhance the flavor.
Step Six
For added sweetness, stir in the honey till it’s well blended.
Step Seven
Serve your avocado leaf tea in cups or mugs with a slice of lemon on the rim for optional garnish. Enjoy hot or let it cool and serve iced based on your preference.
