If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from my Louisiana upbringing and French heritage, it’s the power of marrying simplicity with indulgence to create gastronomical poetry. The Black Sapote and Coconut Smoothie is a beautiful illustration of this principle, it’s a creamy, flavour-packed concoction that has become a staple in my own kitchen and I’m ecstatic to share it with you.
A Culinary Adventure in a Glass
What I love most about this smoothie is the pleasant surprise it offers to even the most seasoned palates. With the Black Sapote’s elusive hint of chocolate offset by the tropical goodness of coconut, every sip is an adventure. This smoothie is reminiscent of a cool, creamy Piña colada meets a chocolate shake, but frozen and creamed into a healthy, delicious smoothie.
This tropical blend pairs exceptionally well with brunch. Imagine having Lemon Ricotta pancakes or a savory egg benedict on the side to really elevate your morning.
Nutriment and Indulgence in Harmony
There’s an uncanny brilliance to recipes that seamlessly merge taste with health benefits, our beloved Black Sapote and Coconut Smoothie does precisely that. The Black Sapote, also known as the chocolate pudding fruit, is loaded with essential vitamins such as Vitamin A and C, providing antioxidants that boost your immune system. The potassium-rich bananas aid digestion, while the coconut milk and shredded coconut are superb sources of medium-chain triglycerides that promote heart health. I prefer to sweeten the smoothie with organic honey, offering antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
In all, this Black Sapote and Coconut smoothie is as nourishing as it is delectable, perfect for those mellow afternoons or as a quick yet filling breakfast. It embodies the heart of Louisiana’s Creole richness and the simplistic elegance of French cuisine, revealing an exceptional harmony between nutrition and indulgence.

Prepare your Black Sapote fruits by cutting them in half, removing the seeds and spooning out the soft pulp. Be careful to avoid the skin as it may be slightly bitter.
