Why I Love Canadian Poutine Pizza Sliders
A whirlwind of mouthwatering flavors tangles your taste buds the moment you bite into these Canadian Poutine Pizza Sliders. A romance of flavors witnessed rarely in the culinary world, this recipe is delightful, versatile, and absolutely addictive. Drawing upon my early days in Montana surrounded by rancher’s favorites and Native American traditions, I’ve always been inspired by new and adventurous flavors. This Canadian dish is no exception.
The Distinction in the Dish
Nested in mini burger buns is nothing less than a masterpiece – a beef patty cooked to perfection in olive oil, showered with a dash of salt and black pepper, and garnished with flavorful diced onions and minced garlic. It is a perfect fusion of Montana’s bison burgers with the Canuck love for gravies and cheese. The sliders then receive generous dollops of pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese – a tribute to the Italian influences that oscillate within North American gastronomy.
The Canadian Throwback
Enter the cheese curds, a signature element of the classic Canadian poutine, followed by crispy golden french fries – the proud identity of this beloved dish. And finally, the real game changer – the beef gravy. Falling mist-like over the cheese curds and fries, it merges the elements of the dish into a tantalizing symphony that makes the Canadian Poutine Pizza Sliders addictive in their own right.
Kudos to Quebec’s Jean-Paul Roy, who invented Poutine in 1964, paving a way for so many delicious recipes like our Canadian Poutine Pizza Sliders. Topped off with a sprinkle of fresh parsley, this recipe is a symphony of textures, temperatures, and unique flavor combinations. The initial crunch of the fries gives way to the soft, gooey cheese and tender meat, with the gravy providing a rich, indulgent finish to each mouthful.
Love for this recipe is rooted within its ability to fuse together cultural culinary elements. It borrows the hearty, comforting nature of the Canadian poutine, combines it with a whimsical pizza slider concept, and ultimately delivers a dish that’s unique in its texture, flavour, and presentation. From kitchen to gatherings, it’s a versatile, delicious crowd-pleaser that’s perfect for any occasion.
What You’ll Need
- 12 mini burger buns
- 1 lb of ground beef
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1/2 tablespoons of salt
- 1/2 tablespoons of black pepper
- 1/2 cup of diced onions
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cup of pizza sauce
- 2 cups of mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 lb of cheese curds
- 1 lb of frozen french fries
- 1 1/2 cups of beef gravy
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
Method
Step One
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Spread the frozen fries on a baking sheet and cook according to package instructions until crisp and golden brown.
Step Two
While that’s happening, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, diced onions, salt and black pepper to the skillet. Stir gently until the beef is fully browned and the onions are tender. Once done, drain any excess fat and mix in the garlic.
Step Three
Cut the mini burger buns in half. Lay them out on a large baking sheet. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the cut sides of the buns.
Step Four
Spoon the beef mixture evenly over the pizza sauce on each bun. Sprinkle each one with some shredded mozzarella cheese, then place a couple of cheese curds on top.
Step Five
Place the prepared buns in the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
Step Six
While the sliders are baking, heat the beef gravy in a saucepan over medium heat until it’s hot.
Step Seven
Once the sliders are out of the oven and the fries are done, arrange some fries on top of each slider. Drizzle with the hot beef gravy and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley.
Step Eight
Serve hot and enjoy your Canadian Poutine Pizza Sliders!
