There are dishes that transport us across the globe without having to leave the comfort of our kitchens, Chinese Ginger Beef Stir Fry is one of them. It’s a blend of vibrant colors, tantalizing flavors, and nourishing ingredients that set you on a culinary journey to the Far East. This recipe, in particular, stands out to me not just because of its taste, but also for how it pairs with my Montana roots where hearty meats and fresh produce are staples.
Nurturing Nature of Ingredients
One of the solid reasons I love Chinese Ginger Beef Stir Fry is its extensive use of healthy ingredients. The health benefits of this dish are numerous, ranging from high protein content to an abundance of vitamins and minerals, thanks to the flank steak, carrots, bell peppers, and onions. In addition to this, it is incredibly adaptable. For example, although I have personally savored this recipe with flank steak, you can substitute it with bison or venison for a sumptuous Montana-style stir fry.
A Harmonious Balance of Flavors
Chinese cuisine is all about balance, and this stir fry is no exception. The ginger and garlic create an aromatic base, while the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and hoisin sauce combine to produce a rich, savory flavor profile. I have always been inspired by bold flavors, and the Chinese Ginger Beef Stir Fry exhibits exactly that, but with a beautiful balance that has, in subtle ways, impacted my own culinary creations.
The Chinese Ginger Beef Stir Fry is a dish that easily stands on its own – a single taste and it commands your attention. However, for full immersion into the Chinese dining experience, I suggest serving it with homemade dumplings or a warming pot of hot and sour soup. The robust flavors of the stir fry paired with these complimenting dishes can create an unforgettable feast for your loved ones.
Whether it’s a busy weekday dinner or an elaborate weekend meal, this Chinese Ginger Beef Stir Fry, with its delightful flavors and nutritious ingredients, will surely win your guests’ hearts. Try treating yourself and your family with this recipe, and I guarantee, it will quickly become a favored pick from your kitchen repertoire.
What You’ll Need
- 1.5 lbs of flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons of cornstarch
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon of minced fresh ginger
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 large carrot, julienned
- 1 large bell pepper, julienned
- 1 medium-sized onion, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
- 1/2 cup of low sodium beef broth
- 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup of thinly sliced green onions
- 2 cups of steamed white or brown rice for serving
Method
Step One
Start by marinating the beef. In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Stir well to coat the beef and set it aside to marinate for 15 – 20 minutes.
Step Two
While the beef is marinating, prepare your vegetables. Julienne the carrot and bell pepper, slice the onion, and mince the ginger and garlic. Set these aside.
Step Three
Heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat in a large wok or frying pan. Once the oil is hot, add the ginger and garlic. Stir-fry until they’re fragrant, which should take about a minute.
Step Four
Add the marinated beef to the pan. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and nearly cooked through. This should take approximately 3 – 4 minutes.
Step Five
Add the julienned carrot, bell pepper, and onion to the pan. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender.
Step Six
While the vegetables are cooking, in a small bowl, combine the oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
Step Seven
Once the vegetables are tender, pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything in the sauce.
Step Eight
Sprinkle the sliced green onions over the top of the stir fry. You may choose to reserve some for garnishing.
Step Nine
Serve the stir fry hot over steamed rice. If desired, garnish with reserved green onions. Enjoy your Chinese Ginger Beef Stir Fry!
