As a native of Portland, Maine, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for seafood. Nothing says home to me quite like a well-prepared dish with freshly caught shellfish from the cold waters of the Atlantic. And that’s exactly what I love about the Chinese Ginger Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry. This delicious recipe combines my New England roots with enticing spices and flavors full of Asian flair. Pretty much the perfect manifestation of my culinary canvas.

Chinese Ginger Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry

East Meets West

There’s a beautiful blend of East and West in this dish. The marriage of classic Chinese flavors with fresh Atlantic shrimp brings out the best of both worlds. It reminds me of the first time I introduced my daughters Erin and Samantha to Chinese cuisine, and how they instantly fell in love with it. This shrimp stir fry dish is a wonderful representation of our shared family memories.

A Nutritional Powerhouse

Beyond the flavors, there’s another reason I treasure this recipe. The Chinese Ginger Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry is brimming with essential nutrients our bodies thrive on. Shrimp alone is a great source of protein, vitamin B12, iron, and selenium. Combine that with an array of colorful veggies packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and you’ve got yourself a truly nutritious meal.

Serve this stir fry over a bed of brown rice or whole grain noodles for a healthy, balanced meal. Its flavor profile is on par with meals you’d find at a high-end Asian restaurant like wonton noodle soup or classic chop suey.

In the end, the magic of the Chinese Ginger Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry lies in its harmonious blend of comfort and adventure, healthfulness and indulgence. It’s a recipe that keeps on giving, and one I always turn to when I want to create a scrumptious memory, one dish at a time.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 lbs large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 2 large carrots, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup snap peas, trimmed
  • 1 can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 green onions, chopped
ALLERGENS: shrimp, vegetable oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce

Method

Step One

First you need to prepare the shrimp. Ensure they are properly cleaned, peeled, and deveined. Keep them aside for the time being.

Step Two

Heat the vegetable oil and sesame oil in a large sauté pan or wok over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir fry them until fragrant, but make sure they don’t burn.

Step Three

Add the red and green bell peppers, thinly sliced carrots, snap peas, and sliced water chestnuts to the pan. Continue to stir fry for another 2-3 minutes, until the vegetables are slightly softened.

Step Four

Now it’s time to add your prepared shrimp to the pan. Stir fry them with the vegetables until they start to turn pink. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step Five

In a separate bowl, add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Whisk them well until you get a smooth texture. Following this, gradually add in the chicken broth while whisking to ensure everything gets incorporated well with no lumps.

Step Six

Pour the sauce into the pan with shrimp and vegetables. Stir everything well and let it simmer for a few minutes. The sauce will start to thicken because of the cornstarch.

Step Seven

Finally, sprinkle chopped green onions on top and give everything a good stir. Your Chinese Ginger Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry is ready to serve. Enjoy this delectable dish with a bowl of jasmine rice or noodles for a complete meal.
