Welcome to a Family Affair

The Chive Butter Grilled Steak recipe is very close to my heart. Growing up, food was not just a meal to us, it was an act of kinship, heritage, and creating memories. Culinary traditions have been passed down from grandparents, through generations, integrating the warmth of family connection in our dishes, and this recipe, my friends, is no exception. Our family dinner table was always a joyous collage of conversations, love, and, of course, deliciously grilled steaks like this one.

Nutrition That Tastes Great

In addition to its tantalizing amalgamation of flavors and textures, this chive butter grilled steak brings the added blessing of numerous health benefits. While steaks are known for their rich protein content, this recipe also includes an abundance of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants thanks to chives and lemon. Chives, with their mild anti-inflammatory properties, can help improve digestion, while the citrusy punch of lemon adds a handy dose of Vitamin C.

Pair the Chive Butter Grilled Steak with a side of oven-roasted potatoes or a peppery arugula salad, just like I do when I’m cooking for my family. Plus, if you’re a fan of dishes like the classic Yankee Pot Roast or the Irish Beef Stew, you’ll certainly appreciate the depth of flavors in this recipe.

So here’s a toast to traditions old and new, to family and loved ones, and to dishes like the Chive Butter Grilled Steak, that keep us close, keep us healthy, and keep enticing us into the kitchen for yet another gastronomical adventure. Bon appetit!

What You’ll Need

  • 6 steaks
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of ground black pepper
  • 1 cup of butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped finely
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
ALLERGENS: Dairy

Method

Step One

Season the steaks evenly with the salt and ground black pepper. Make sure it’s well-coated and rubbed into the meat. Set them aside.

Step Two

In a bowl, combine the softened butter, chopped fresh chives, finely chopped garlic, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Stir them all together until it’s well-mixed.

Step Three

In a skillet or grilling pan, heat the tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the seasoned steaks.

Step Four

Grill the steaks on one side for about 4-5 minutes or until browned and slightly charred. Then, flip the steaks and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare steaks. Feel free to adjust the cooking time according to your desired steak doneness.

Step Five

Once the steaks are grilled to your preferred doneness, remove them from the heat. Immediately dollop some of the chive butter on each steak and let it melt from the heat of the steak.

Step Six

Let the steaks rest for a few minutes to allow the flavours to meld and the steak juices to redistribute. After resting, feel free to serve the steak with additional chive butter on the side, if desired.

Step Seven

Enjoy your Chive Butter Grilled Steak while it’s hot, ideally with some vegetables or mashed potatoes on the side for a complete meal.
