What You’ll Need
- 6 firm, ripe Bosc pears
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 6 whole allspice berries
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Zest of 1 lemon
Method
Step One
Peel the 6 firm, ripe Bosc pears, leaving the stems intact. Core them from the bottom using a melon baller or small spoon to remove seeds.
Step Two
In a large saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 4 cups of water, 1/2 cup of honey, 2 cinnamon sticks, 6 whole allspice berries, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and the zest of 1 lemon. Stir these ingredients together over medium heat until the honey and sugar are fully dissolved.
Step Three
Add the prepared pears to the saucepan. If the pears aren’t fully submerged in the liquid, add more water until they are.
Step Four
Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it continue for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the pears are tender when poked with a fork.
Step Five
Once done, remove the pears from the heat. You can serve them warm, or let them cool and store them in the liquid in the refrigerator.
Step Six
When ready to serve, remove the pears from the liquid and plate them individually. Strain the poaching liquid and pour some over each pear. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy your Cinnamon Allspice Poached Pears!
