Why I Love Austrian Creamy Garlic Shrimp Pasta

I’ve always been smitten with international flavors, and out of that love came my version of the Austrian classic, the Creamy Garlic Shrimp Pasta. It’s a dish that encapsulates the essence of robust garlic flavors, the tenderness of shrimp and the rich creaminess of pasta that is hard to resist. Truly a feast not just for the palate but for the eyes too. Check out the magnificent dish here.

Infusing a Southern Twist

Being a true Texan at heart, I couldn’t help but infuse my culinary roots into this otherwise traditional dish. While the original recipe sticks tightly to Austrian principles, I injected a hint of the Tex-Mex flare that I grew up loving. Just a touch of zest with the addition of lemon elevates the overall flavor, making it resonate more with the Southern taste buds. Although not traditional, I believe my spin on the Creamy Garlic Shrimp Pasta would still have the nod of approval from renowned Austrian chef Wolfgang Puck. If you’re interested to know more about his approach to food, you can take a look at his website.

Great Pairings and Similar Dishes

When it comes to savoring this creamy delight, I find it works wonderfully alongside a crisp, green salad to balance out the richness. If you’re particularly drawn towards seafood pastas like this one, you might also find Lobster Newburg, a seafood specialty of the New England region, appealing.

In the end, whether you follow my version or the traditional Creamy Garlic Shrimp pasta, it’s the enjoyment of cooking and the happiness it brings to your dining table that counts. Feel free to explore, modify, and most importantly, savor every bite!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 lb Large Shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 8 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 3/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 tbsp fresh Parsley (chopped)
  • 1 tsp Lemon Zest
  • 1 lb Pasta (Fettuccine or linguine works great)
ALLERGENS: Shrimp, Chicken Broth, Heavy Cream, Parmesan Cheese, Pasta

Method

Step One

Start by boiling your pasta according to the instructions given on the package. Once cooked, drain and set it aside.

Step Two

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add shrimp to the skillet and season them with salt and pepper. Cook the shrimp until they’re pink, this should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step Three

Next, add in the minced garlic to the shrimp and cook for another minute or until the garlic becomes fragrant.

Step Four

Pour in the chicken broth into the skillet with the shrimp and garlic. Let this simmer until the broth has reduced by half, which should take around 5 minutes. Then, reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy cream. Let this mixture simmer until it has thickened, this should take about 3-5 minutes.

Step Five

Stir in the parmesan cheese until it’s fully melted into the cream. Then, stir in the chopped parsley and lemon zest. Make sure to taste the sauce and add more salt and pepper if needed.

Step Six

Add the cooked pasta into the skillet, tossing it well so it’s fully covered with the creamy garlic sauce. Let it cook for a minute or two, so the pasta soaks up some of the sauce.

Step Seven

Finally, serve the Creamy Garlic Shrimp Pasta while hot, topped with extra parsley and parmesan cheese if desired. Enjoy your meal!
