I find myself loving the Elderflower and Strawberry Jam recipe even more with each batch I whip up. This jam – a delightful blend of fresh strawberries and fragrant elderflowers – provides a delicious fusion of influences from my Pacific Northwest upbringing and Japanese heritage. Just as these two regions find harmony in my life, the strawberries and elderflowers create an irresistible combination that’s both comforting and adventurous.
Embracing Bodily Well-being
Health benefits play a major role in my love for this recipe. Both strawberries and elderflowers are packed with an array of beneficial nutrients. Strawberries, for instance, are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, all key in maintaining a robust immune system. Elderflowers carry their own multitude of benefits, including anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties.
Recipes and Pairings
Similar to some Japanese Konfitura – a type of thick, flavor-packed jam – the Elderflower and Strawberry Jam is versatile enough to work harmoniously with both savory and sweet dishes. Try it over a rich, creamy cheesecake or serve it as a tangy spread over freshly grilled salmon. The complex flavor profile and its perfect balance of sweet and tart elements make it an excellent choice for enhancing all kinds of dishes.
Feel free to find inspiration from Japanese-style pancakes or a traditional sourdough pancake recipe. Either one could serve as a delightful canvas for your homemade jam.
Above all, what truly sets this recipe apart for me is the process—it’s a labor of love from start to finish. From selecting the best berries to the final stir before letting the jam cool, every step is a mindful, meditative practice steeped in tradition. Here’s hoping your kitchen fills with the same joy when you take a crack at this Elderflower and Strawberry Jam recipe.
What You’ll Need
- 2 cups of fresh strawberries
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 1 packet (approximately 1.75 oz) of pectin
- 1/2 cup of elderflower cordial
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice
- 1/2 cup of water
Method
Step One
Prepare the strawberries by washing them thoroughly, removing the stems, and chopping into small pieces. Place the chopped strawberries in a large bowl.
Step Two
Add sugar to the strawberries until they are well coated. Leave the mixture to sit for about an hour to allow the strawberries to release their juice.
Step Three
While the strawberries are sitting, combine the water and the pectin in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and square continuously until the pectin has completely dissolved.
Step Four
Add the elderflower cordial and lemon juice to the saucepan and stir. Continue to heat the mixture on a low heat for about 5 minutes.
Step Five
Combine the strawberry and sugar mixture with the heated liquid in the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, stirring constantly, for about 10 minutes or until the mixture begins to thicken.
Step Six
Pour the jam into sterilised jars while it is still hot and seal immediately. Allow to cool before storing. Your Elderflower and Strawberry Jam is ready to serve and enjoy. Be sure to refrigerate after opening.
