Today, I want to share with all of you an absolute favorite in my household: the Fava Bean Hummus with Tahini and Lemon. This recipe carries a beautiful balance of flavors, sourced from the simple but vibrant ingredients it demands. Owing to the ethos of the Big Apple where anything is possible, this dish is a humble invitation to taste buds across the globe, a sort of gastronomical Broadway performance that celebrates diversity and fusion.
The Health Benefits of Fava Beans
While my love for this Fava Bean Hummus with Tahini and Lemon recipe comes from the roulette of flavors it packs, it also extends to the remarkable health benefits it provides. The star ingredient, Fava Beans, is a nutritional powerhouse – rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It promotes heart health, aids in anemia prevention and contributes to healthy pregnancies with its folate content. When combined with garlic, another key ingredient known for its amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, this recipe becomes a delicious way to boost your overall health.
Combinations and Pairings
This vegetable-based hummus closely mirrors the classic Middle Eastern Chickpea Hummus, with the primary difference lying in the main legume used. In my theatrical journey, I’ve learned a thing or two about versatility, and this recipe acts in the same vein. It’s as adaptable as it is exquisite! Pair it with warm pita bread for a delightful appetizer, use it as a spread for your wholesome sandwiches or top it on your grilled chicken as a zesty and healthier alternative to mayonnaise. It also makes a wonderful dip for crudités during those summer outdoor gatherings.
Now, come and join me as we take the stage to prepare this splendid Fava bean Hummus with Tahini and Lemon. Just like a thrilling show on Broadway, each step will be a gorgeous revelation, each flavor playing its part to create the final masterpiece.
What You’ll Need
- 2 cups of fresh Fava beans
- 3 tablespoons of Tahini
- Juice of 2 Lemons
- 2 cloves of Garlic
- 1/4 cup of extra virgin Olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of Black pepper
- 1/4 cup of Water
- 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh Parsley
- Extra Olive oil, for drizzling
- Additional toppings: Paprika, Lemon slices, and fresh Parsley for garnish
Method
Step One
Start by boiling the fresh fava beans for 15 minutes or until they become soft. Once properly boiled, strain the beans and let them cool. After the beans have cooled, peel them to remove the skin.
Step Two
In a food processor, blend together the peeled fava beans, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Blend until you have a smooth paste. If the mixture seems too thick, gradually add the 1/4 cup of water until your desired consistency is achieved.
Step Three
Add in the chopped parsley and pulse a few more times until it is just mixed in. Do not over-process; you want bits of parsley still visible in your hummus.
Step Four
Taste the hummus and adjust the seasonings, adding more salt, pepper or lemon juice as needed.
Step Five
Transfer the hummus to a serving dish. Drizzle with a little more olive oil and sprinkle with paprika for added flavor and garnish with fresh parsley and lemon slices.
Enjoy your Fava Bean Hummus with Tahini and Lemon as a delicious and healthy appetizer or snack!
