A Culinary Journey
Being a Montanan, I am a firm believer in experiencing the flavors of nature in our dishes. Just like the bold Bison burgers or the subtly sweet huckleberry pies, the Fish Mint and Shrimp Stir Fry draws inspiration from the varied flavor profiles found in nature. Whether it is the fresh shrimp or the robust fish mint leaves – this recipe is brimming with flavors that are reminiscent of the ocean waves crashing on the rocky shores.
The Health Halo – Pack a Punch of Nutrition
Not only is this Fish Mint and Shrimp Stir Fry an explosion of taste, it’s a powerhouse of nutrition as well. Shrimp, for example, are an excellent source of Selenium, a powerful antioxidant that can fight inflammation and enhance immunity. Fish Mint, on the other hand, is known for its cooling properties and is packed with essential nutrients including Vitamins A, C, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Using less oil and opting for soy and oyster sauce, adds to the health benefits by keeping the calories in check while still ensuring a flavorful experience.
Pair It Up!
The Fish Mint and Shrimp Stir Fry pairs well with numerous dishes. The robust flavors of shrimp complement the delicate essence of white rice. If you prefer more complexity, try pairing it with Korean-style fried rice or Pad Thai for an Asian flare. The possibilities are endless!
Whether you’re looking for a healthy choice that packs a punch of flavors, or you’re a seafood lover exploring new recipes, this Fish Mint and Shrimp Stir Fry will be your go-to favorite. Embrace the adventure of culinary exploration and give it a whirl. Bon Appétit!
What You’ll Need
- 1 pound of shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup of fish mint leaves
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon of fish sauce
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 2 green onions, sliced on the diagonal
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons of water
Method
Step One
Begin by preparing the ingredients. Ensure that the shrimp is thoroughly peeled and deveined. Wash and just pluck the leaves from the fish mint. Gather the rest of the ingredients – garlic, onion, bell peppers, and green onions – and slice them accordingly.
Step Two
Heat up the vegetable oil in a wok or large pan over medium heat. Once heated, add the finely chopped garlic and stir until it is fragrant, but be careful not to burn it.
Step Three
Add the thinly sliced onion into the wok. Stir fry for a couple of minutes till they turn slightly translucent. Follow this up by adding both the sliced red and green bell peppers. Continue to stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes.
Step Four
Now it’s time to add the shrimp. Stir-fry until they turn pink. This should typically take around 2-3 minutes. Afterward, add in the fish mint leaves and cook for another minute.
Step Five
It’s time to enhance the flavors. Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and fish sauce. Sprinkle in the sugar and ground black pepper and give the stir-fry a good mix to evenly distribute the seasonings.
Step Six
Bring the heat down to low and add in your cornstarch and water mixture. This will help thicken the sauce. Stir and cook for another minute until the sauce is well incorporated.
Step Seven
Your dish is almost ready! Finish it off by sprinkling the diagonally sliced green onions over the stir-fry. Give it a final stir and then it’s ready to serve. Enjoy this delicious dish hot with a side of steamed rice.
