Why I Love Italian Ginger Flavored Salmon

Spanning across the traditions of Italian cuisine to Montana’s rustic flavors, one recipe always manages to beguile my taste buds. The Ginger Flavored Salmon. Apart from its simplistic elegance, it’s the depth of flavor achieved by marrying classic Italian ingredients and innovative additions that truly makes this dish stand out.

The Inspiration Behind The Recipe

Being a cook, I am always searching for innovative ways to introduce exciting new flavors to traditional favorites. I was inspired by the famous Italian chef Giada De Laurentiis who often enriches her dishes with fresh herbs and natural flavorings. Drawing upon her creativity and my Western background, I fused together elements of Italian cuisine and my home’s distinct appreciation for fresh and home-grown ingredients to create the Ginger Flavored Salmon.

Where Tradition Meets Innovation

This dish is reminiscent of a classic Italian grilled salmon but with an innovative Asian twist. Like many Italian recipes, it values the quality of ingredients rather than the complexity of preparation methods. The ginger not only adds a zesty kick but also brings a whole new dimension to the flavor profile, separate from the familiar Italian seasonings.

It’s that balance of acidity from the lemon juice, saltiness of the soy sauce, sweetness of the honey, and punch of the ginger and garlic that makes this dish so versatile. It can easily sit at the dinner table alongside pasta dishes, grilled vegetables, or even a hearty bison burger, making each meal a gastronomic journey.

What You’ll Need

  • 6 salmon fillets, each about 6 ounces
  • 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup of fresh ginger, minced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 lemons, sliced for garnish
ALLERGENS: Fish (salmon), Soy

Method

Step One

Start by preheating your grill to medium-high temperature. While waiting for the grill to heat up, prepare your salmon fillets by brushing them with the extra-virgin olive oil.

Step Two

In a small bowl, combine the minced ginger and garlic. Spread the mixture evenly over each salmon fillet, making sure to cover all surfaces. This will give the salmon a rich, spicy flavor that will balance beautifully with the sweet and tangy glaze that comes next.

Step Three

In a separate sauce pan, combine the fresh lemon juice, soy sauce and honey. Stir until the mixture is well combined and the honey is fully dissolved. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to thicken into a glaze.

Step Four

Season the salmon fillets with the fresh black pepper and sea salt. Afterward, generously brush each fillet with the glaze, making sure to cover all surfaces. Reserve some glaze for basting during grilling.

Step Five

Grill the salmon fillets for about 4 to 6 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fillets. Make sure to baste the fillets with the glaze every time you flip them. The salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork.

Step Six

Before serving, sprinkle the cooked salmon fillets with the fresh chopped parsley. Place a couple of lemon slices on top of each fillet for an added fresh and citrusy taste. Serve the Ginger Flavored Salmon hot and enjoy!
