About Gluten-Free Dinner Roll

If there’s one bread that promises to steal the show at your next dinner party, it’s the Gluten-Free Dinner Roll. This pillow-soft, warm, and slightly sweet delicacy has all the charm of a traditional dinner roll, with the added benefit of being gluten-free. Just imagine breaking open one of these charming rolls at the table, everyone watching in appreciation, as the steam escapes to reveal a fluffy, tender interior.

Gluten-Free Dinner Roll

The Perfect Culinary Complement

Not only is this bread a standalone marvel, but its delicate flavors also lend itself fabulously to a variety of gourmet dishes. Imagine it paired with a rich, hearty stew (like this one) where it can soak up all those luscious flavors. Or consider it as a side to a crisp, fresh salad, adding a delightful contrast of textures. Of course, the Gluten-Free Dinner Roll also shines in its traditional role – as part of a sumptuous dinner spread, nestled among dishes like roast turkey or grilled vegetables.

Uncompromising on Taste

Just because it’s gluten-free doesn’t mean its taste and texture are compromised. An astute combination of gluten-free all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, and xanthan gum ensures that these rolls have a surprisingly soft, elastic texture that’s not far off from their wheat-based counterparts. The slight sweetness from the honey, balanced with the salt, just enhances its universal appeal. And of course, it wouldn’t be a dinner roll without that rich, buttery undertone that we all know and love.

But wait, there’s more to this bread than meets the eye. The addition of apple cider vinegar doesn’t just contribute to its delightful tang. This ingredient also works behind the scenes, reacting with the yeast to give the bread that desirable light, airy texture. Now, isn’t that a clever use of chemistry in baking?

Accessible to Everyone

Perhaps, the most outstanding attribute of the Gluten-Free Dinner Roll is its inclusivity. If you’ve been searching for a bread that caters to dietary restrictions while packing a flavor punch, your quest ends here. This dinner roll is perfect for those with gluten intolerance or anyone following a gluten-free diet but doesn’t want to miss out on the joy of a delicious, home-baked bread.

The world of bread is vast and varied, but with this Gluten-Free Dinner Roll, we’ve just added another wonderfully satisfying element to the mix. So why wait? Roll up your sleeves, don your apron, and let’s get baking!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup tapioca flour
  • 2 teaspoons xanthan gum
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
ALLERGENS: milk, butter, egg

Method

Step One

Combine warm water and sugar in a small bowl. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Add the active dry yeast, stir lightly, then let it sit for about 5-10 minutes or until it becomes frothy. This will activate the yeast.

Step Two

In a different bowl, whisk together gluten-free all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, xanthan gum, and salt so they’re well combined.

Step Three

Add the room temperature whole milk, melted and cooled butter, honey, and egg into the yeast mixture. Make sure to mix this wet mixture thoroughly.

Step Four

Slowly add your dry mixture into your wet mixture. Stir well in between each addition to ensure it’s fully mixed. The dough should be fairly sticky but not overly wet.

Step Five

Grease your hands lightly and take about two tablespoons** of dough and shape into a round ball. Place these balls into a greased 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Repeat until you run out of dough.

Step Six

Lightly cover the dough balls with plastic wrap and put them in a warm place to rise. They should almost double in size, which usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour.

Step Seven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated and the rolls have risen, remove the plastic wrap and place the rolls in the oven.

Step Eight

Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Remove from the oven and brush the tops lightly with some melted butter if desired for a shinier finish.

Step Nine

Let them cool slightly before moving them from the pan. After that, you are ready to serve your gluten-free dinner rolls. Enjoy!
