About Gluten-Free Focaccia

A Brief Introduction

The mouth-watering joy that is Gluten-Free Focaccia is anything but a typical loaf. It’s a delicious Italian bread that offers a soft crumb and a delightfully crisp crust. Thanks to some careful crafting and close attention to choice ingredients, it’s been transformed into an equally appetizing, gluten-free alternative.

Gluten-Free Focaccia

Aromatic olive oil, fragrant rosemary, garlic powder, and a generous sprinkle of coarse salt makes this flatbread splendid in its simplicity. It’s the kind of bread that works on numerous levels, perfect for accompanying a vibrant Mediterranean meal, as an appetizer with fine olive oil and a glass of Italian white wine, or as the perfect base for a slew of sandwich combinations.

Comparisons and Pairings

In some respects, those familiar with Naan or Pita bread may recognize the textural kinship it shares with our Gluten-Free Focaccia. They all have a satisfying chewiness, though our focaccia’s crumb is more aerated, giving it a lighter feel in the mouth. It’s a reminder of how diverse yet interconnected the world of bread can be.

This Focaccia pairs remarkably well with a myriad of dishes. Imagine it alongside a fresh Caprese salad, or dipped into a bowl of hearty Minestrone soup. Served with a platter of antipasto, Gluten-Free Focaccia more than holds its own. Consider it too for a twist on your standard pizza night – its height and crumb make it the ideal vessel for a plethora of toppings.

A Word on Its Gluten-Free Status

Despite its gluten-free status, Gluten-Free Focaccia embodies the very best aspects of Italian bread: full-flavored, robust, and distinctly memorable. Gluten-free flour blend brings all the benefits of classic Focaccia, with none of the implications of gluten. It’s a perfect choice for those adhering to a gluten-free lifestyle, but equally wonderful for those who simply enjoy good bread. What You’ll Need

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 1/4 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/2 cups gluten-free flour blend
  • 2 tablespoons dried rosemary
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • Coarse salt for topping
  • Additional olive oil for drizzling
ALLERGENS: The recipe seems to be free from common allergens. However, it would depend on the contents of the gluten-free flour blend. Some blends may contain allergens such as nuts, soy or dairy.

Method

Step One

First, take a large bowl and combine 1 1/2 cups of warm water and 3 tablespoons of white sugar. Stir it until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step Two

Next, sprinkle the 1 1/4 tablespoons of active dry yeast over the sugar water. Allow it to stand for about 10 minutes. The mixture should become frothy.

Step Three

Stir in 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt into the yeast mixture.

Step Four

Sift in the 2 1/2 cups of gluten-free flour blend bit by bit while stirring consistently to avoid lumps. Continue to stir until the dough pulls together.

Step Five

Add in the 2 tablespoons of dried rosemary and 2 teaspoons of garlic powder. Stir until these ingredients are well incorporated into the dough.

Step Six

Transfer the dough to a greased baking sheet, then gently shape it into a rough rectangle. Cover it loosely with a damp cloth and set in a warm place for about 20 minutes to rise.

Step Seven

Once risen, poke small holes in the top of the dough using a finger or the handle of a wooden spoon. Drizzle additional olive oil over the top and sprinkle with coarse salt.

Step Eight

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (roughly 190 degrees C) and bake the focaccia for about 20 – 25 minutes, or until it turns golden brown. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before cutting and serving. Enjoy your Gluten-Free Focaccia!
