Our Inspiration
As often is the case with food, our Gluten-Free Hot Cross Buns recipe has a story to tell. It was inspired by the cuisine of the United Kingdom, where these buns are traditionally enjoyed on Good Friday. However, our recipe takes things up a notch and delivers comfort on any given day, reminding you of the comforting, homey kitchens of English households, the delectable aroma of the buns baking filling the space. Indeed, it is food that not only nourishes your body but also your nostalgia.
What Sets Our Bread Apart?
What sets our version of Gluten-Free Hot Cross Buns apart lies in our thoughtful ingredient selection. For instance, we’ve chosen a unique blend of gluten-free all-purpose flour and almond flour, guaranteeing the buns have that quintessential fluffy texture. Then, the sweet inclusion of a generous portion of dried currants or raisins offers a contrasting bite, harmoniously blending with the delicate notes of ground cinnamon and nutmeg.
And what’s a hot cross bun without its glossy finish and the striking cross? Our secret is a simple paste of gluten-free flour and water, piped on before baking, and a final touch of honey glaze, providing the buns with a glossy, sticky finish that is both visually appealing and sinfully delicious.
Pairings and Serving Suggestions
The beauty of these Gluten-Free Hot Cross Buns is that they can be a versatile element in your meals. While they are traditionally enjoyed as is, possibly warmed and slathered with a pat of melted butter, or even a swipe of your favorite jam, they also weave seamlessly into various culinary combinations.
If you want to amplify your brunch experience, consider serving these buns alongside a savory quiche – the contrast between the sweet, spiced buns and the savory quiche promises a tantalizing palate experience. If dessert’s more your style, consider pairing with a creamy custard or even a rich apple pie.
