About Gluten-Free Oat Bread
Delightfully rustic and wholly nourishing, our Gluten-Free Oat Bread is a healthy twist on traditional bread that doesn’t sacrifice texture or taste. Thanks to a medley of nutrient-rich ingredients like buckwheat flour and quinoa flour, complemented by the subtle crunch of chia seeds, this gluten-free oat bread is as satisfying as it is healthy. From pairing beautifully with a warm bowl of vegetable soup to serving as an ideal base for avocado toast, our gluten-free oat bread truly shines with its versatility.
The Magic of Gluten-Free Ingredients
The heart of our gluten-free oat bread is, unsurprisingly, gluten-free rolled oats, which give the bread its delightful, hearty texture, and distinct oat flavour. But it’s the supporting cast of gluten-free ingredients that truly enriches the bread’s profile. Buckwheat flour and quinoa flour not only provide alternative sources of nutrients and fibre but also lend their own unique flavours—earthiness from the buckwheat and a touch of nuttiness from the quinoa. The addition of chia seeds and psyllium husk powder further boosts the fibre content, while also adding a delightful bit of crunch and texture.
A Healthy Bread for Diverse Palettes
But our gluten-free oat bread isn’t just about being nutritious—it’s about flavour, too. The slight sweetness from the maple syrup, complemented by the balanced use of sea salt, creates a delightful taste that would be enough to satisfy one’s craving for good bread. Yet, it’s the addition of a splash of apple cider vinegar—a secret ingredient that adds a hint of tanginess—and the richness from the olive oil that truly rounds off the bread’s flavour profile. Completed with a touch of yeast’s natural rising properties, the end result is a deeply satisfying and delicious bread.
Whether you’re planning a brunch or simply yearning for a healthy snack, our Gluten-Free Oat Bread is a versatile choice that pairs wonderfully with an array of dishes. Try toasting a couple of slices and pairing them with poached eggs for a protein-rich breakfast, or make an open-faced sandwich with smoked salmon and cream cheese. However you choose to enjoy this bread, we are confident that its unique taste and hearty texture will make it a staple in your gluten-free repertoire.
What You’ll Need
- 1 1/2 cups Gluten-Free Rolled Oats
- 1/2 cup Buckwheat Flour
- 1/2 cup Quinoa Flour
- 1/4 cup Chia Seeds
- 1/4 cup Psyllium Husk Powder
- 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
- 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup
- 1 3/4 cups Warm Water
- 1/4 cup Olive Oil
- 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 packet (about 2 1/4 teaspoons) of Active Dry Yeast
Method
Step One
Begin by preheating your oven to 350° F (175° C). Lightly grease and flour (using buckwheat or quinoa flour) a loaf pan and set aside.
Step Two
In a large bowl, combine the gluten-free rolled oats with the buckwheat and quinoa flours. Add in the chia seeds, psyllium husk powder, and sea salt. Stir the dry ingredients until they’re well mixed.
Step Three
In a separate bowl, combine the warm water with the maple syrup, olive oil, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until well combined and add the yeast. Allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes, till the yeast becomes frothy.
Step Four
Once the yeast mixture is ready, add the wet ingredients to the dry, stirring thoroughly until everything is well incorporated. The mixture may be a bit looser than traditional bread dough, but this is normal.
Step Five
Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Cover the pan with a clean kitchen towel and allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
Step Six
Once the dough has risen, bake the bread in the preheated oven for around 50 minutes to 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step Seven
Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step Eight
Once the bread is completely cooled, it is ready to be sliced and served. Enjoy your homemade gluten-free oat bread!
