About Gluten-Free Pita

Gluten-Free Pita; the name alone transports us to a world of dietary delight, where the age-old simplicity of bread renews its flavorful acquaintance with the modern trend of gluten-free. This exquisite pita bread, made without a trace of gluten, is your ticket to enjoying the creamy dips, heart-melting spreads, and sumptuous fillings that are a staple of Mediterranean cuisine.

Gluten-Free Pita

You might mistake its texture for its wheat-filled counterpart, but make no mistake, this bread shatters norms. It’s love at first bite for anyone with gluten sensitivities or followers of a gluten-free diet, but also for all food lovers who appreciate the soft and fluffy texture balanced with a touch of chewiness this bread casually showcases.

A Bread for all Seasons and Reasons

The flexibility of our Gluten-Free Pita is where it really shines. No need to feel sidelined on family pizza nights anymore. With this pita as your base, you are all set to join the fun. Be it a succulent gyro, a classic falafel sandwich, or a versatile flatbread for scooping up hummus, vibrant babaganoush, or any of your favorite Mediterranean dips, this bread is up for the task.

Unlike many gluten-free bread that crumble and break, pita stands as a testament to the notion that gluten-free doesn’t have to mean joy-free when it comes to food. This bread is resilient and firm, yet its interior maintains a dream-like tenderness that just can’t get enough of.

A Healthful and Flavorful Journey

As an added bonus, baking Gluten-Free Pita is just as therapeutic as eating it. The process of kneading the dough, watching the yeast spring to life, and witnessing the fruits of your labor puff up in the oven is rewarding in its own right. We’ve even included a touch of olive oil for that added layer of delicate flavor and well-rounded texture. Plus, did we mention it’s sugar-free? This truly is a bread that complements your health-conscious lifestyle!

To sum up, whether you’re gluten-tolerant and simply searching for a new kitchen adventure, or you’re gluten-sensitive and longing for a reliable staple to add to your repertoire, this Gluten-Free Pita is precisely what you’re looking for.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon xanthan gum (if it’s not in your flour blend)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (~110°F)
ALLERGENS: None

Method

Step One

First, mix together the gluten-free all-purpose flour, xanthan gum (if needed), sugar, instant yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Give these dry ingredients a good whisk to combine them thoroughly.

Step Two

Next, add the olive oil to your dry mixture. Begin to combine this into the mix, and gradually start adding the warm water. As you add the water, continue to stir and begin to knead the mixture together until it forms a soft dough.

Step Three

Once your dough has formed, cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and set it aside in a warm place for approximately two hours. This will allow the dough to rise and double in size.

Step Four

After the dough has risen, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a baking stone, place it in the oven as it preheats. If not, a baking sheet will also work.

Step Five

Divide your dough into eight even pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it using a rolling pin. Aim for a thickness of about 1/4 inch. If your dough is sticky, dust it lightly with some extra gluten-free flour.

Step Six

Place the rolled out pitas onto your preheated baking stone or baking sheet, and bake for about 10 minutes, or until the pitas are lightly browned and puffed up.

Step Seven

Once the pitas are done baking, remove them from the oven and wrap them in a clean towel until they are cool. This will keep them soft. Once cooled, they are ready to enjoy!
