The Composition of the Green Bean and Mushroom Tart
Drawing inspiration from the medley of cultures brewing in the New York City culinary scene, this tart boasts a miscellany of flavors that are as diverse as the city itself. The French authenticity of the Gruyere cheese, the Italian-infused olive oil, to the American-grown green beans and mushrooms, every element harmonizes perfectly with the next, yielding a comforting and tantalizing dish.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
The Green Bean and Mushroom Tart holds a special charm for quite a few reasons besides its divine taste. Firstly, it’s healthy! Mushrooms and green beans are packed with vitamins and nutrients that boost your immunity and contribute to your overall health. Moreover, the addition of eggs lends protein-rich goodness to the tart, rendering it not just palatable but nourishing at the same time.
Moreover, the versatility of this tart lends itself to numerous occasions. It’s just as perfect for a family brunch as it is for a sophisticated dinner party. Best enjoyed straight from the oven, this tart pairs beautifully with a fresh, fruity Chardonnay or a side of grilled Caesar salad to enhance the dining experience.
Lastly, this tart evokes a sense of comfort that is usually associated with hearty, home-baked goods. Drawing on the comforting essence of homemade pies, it lends a touch of cosy domesticity with its tantalising textures and flavours.
Indeed, the Green Bean and Mushroom Tart achieves a delightful balance of gourmet sophistication and comforting simplicity. Try it for yourself and experience the love I have for this recipe firsthand.
What You’ll Need
- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
- 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Method
Step One
First, preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350F). Position your pre-made pie crust in a 9-inch tart pan, pushing it into the corners and trimming any excess. Place this in the oven and pre-bake for about 10 minutes. Once done, remove and set aside.
Step Two
Meanwhile, in a large skillet, warm the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, cook until they’re softened and begin to turn golden. Add the sliced mushrooms and continue to cook until they’re softened and browned, this should take about 5 minutes.
Step Three
Bring a medium pot of water to a rolling boil, and add your green beans. Boil for about 3-4 minutes, just until they’re crisp-tender, then drain them and add to the skillet with the onions and mushrooms. Stir everything together, and season with half the salt and pepper.
Step Four
Begin making the custard by beating the eggs in a large bowl, then add the milk and the rest of the salt and pepper. Stir well to combine, and then add the grated Gruyere.
Step Five
Spread your veggie mixture evenly over the pre-baked crust, and then pour the egg and cheese mixture over the top. It should evenly cover the veggies and fill up the crust.
Step Six
Place the tart in the oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is lightly golden. Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Your delicious Green Bean and Mushroom Tart is now ready to be enjoyed!
