This recipe of Grilled Bell Peppers with Garlic Herb Oil is a delightful tribute to the simplicity of fresh, honest flavors. Inspired by my Pacific Northwest upbringing, and the innate respect Japanese cuisine has for individual ingredients, this dish weaves together the best of both worlds.
A Fusion of Flavors
Grilled Bell Peppers with Garlic Herb Oil may seem a straightforward recipe, but as the wonderful Japanese saying goes, “simple is best.” The vibrant, sweet crunch of the bell peppers perfectly counterbalances the robust fragrances of our garlic-herb oil — a melody of basil, thyme, and rosemary
This quintessential combination reminds me of Mediterranean cuisine; it’s quite similar to the Peperonata recipe – an Italian dish that utilizes bell peppers, garlic, and herbs. It’s a fresh, vibrant, and savory dish that resonates deeply within my culinary sensibilities.
The Healthful Goodness
Not only is this recipe pleasing to the palate, it’s also incredibly healthful. Bell peppers are a powerhouse of vitamins, particularly Vitamin C and Vitamin A, they’re also packed with fiber. Healthline talks about how these colorful vegatables could help reduce the risk of several chronic diseases. Alongside this, the garlic used in the dish is famous for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Combined with the monounsaturated fats from quality olive oil, such as those discussed on Olive Oil Times, this dish is a fusion of taste and wellness.
The versatility of Grilled Bell Peppers with Garlic Herb Oil is what I love about this dish. We can serve it alongside grilled meat, mixed into pasta, or even stuffed into a warm sandwich. The possibilities are as boundless as one’s culinary imagination.
I hope you will enjoy crafting this wholesome dish as much as I love creating it. Happy cooking!
What You’ll Need
- 3 large bell peppers (one red, one yellow, one green)
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
- 1 tsp fresh thyme, finely chopped
- 1 tsp fresh basil, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Method
Step One
Preheat your grill on medium-high heat. While your grill is preheating, you can cut the bell peppers. Remove the tops, seeds, and membranes of each bell pepper. Cut each pepper into two halves. Set them aside.
Step Two
In a small saucepan, add the olive oil and minced garlic. Place the saucepan on a stove over medium heat and sauté the garlic until it’s fragrant.
Step Three
Remove the saucepan from the heat and mix in the finely chopped herbs: rosemary, thyme, and basil. Stir until the herbs are evenly incorporated into the garlic oil. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.
Step Four
Brush the inside of the bell peppers with the garlic herb oil. Ensure that each half is thoroughly coated for the best flavor.
Step Five
Place the bell peppers on the grill, with the cut side down first. Grill for about 5-6 minutes until the peppers start to soften and get grill marks. Then, flip the peppers and grill for another 5 minutes.
Step Six
Remove the bell peppers from the grill and brush them with the remaining garlic herb oil. Lastly, adjust the seasoning if necessary. Your Grilled Bell Peppers with Garlic Herb Oil are ready to be served!
