As a California native with Gujarati roots, I’m Cupid-struck by the delightful convergence of cultures in this recipe for Grilled Chicken with Siling Habas Salsa. The vibrancy of each ingredient mirrors the spirited melting pot I grew up in, giving a twist to the traditional method of preparation, which is commonly found in India. Adding siling haba, a variety of Filipino green chili, to the salsa brings a touch of Southeast Asian flair, making this dish a true blend of flavors.
A Symphony of Tastes
The Grilled Chicken with Siling Habas Salsa, akin to a fusion of culinary tastes, strikes a lovely balance between the savory chicken and the spicy-tangy salsa. The silkiness of the avocado, the sweetness of the dice-cut mango, the sharpness of the red onion, and the tingle from the siling haba chilies all work in harmony to make your dining experience one to remember.
Healthy and Scrumptious
This recipe is not just about enthralling taste buds, but also about satisfying different health considerations. The lean protein from the chicken breast works wonderfully if you’re monitoring your diet. Also, the use of olive oil, abundant in monounsaturated fats, adds a healthy touch to the recipe. The vitamin-packed salsa offers a considerable punch of antioxidants too, making this meal a perfect blend of health and flavor.
Perfect Pairings and Substitutions
If you want to add some greens to this lovely meal, a fresh spinach salad or herbed quinoa would be perfect. And if you’re a vegan or vegetarian, worry not, you can always swap the grilled chicken for tofu or tempeh. This would help you maintain the texture and the protein content without compromising your dietary restrictions.

- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons lime juice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
- 2 pieces siling haba (green chilies), chopped
- 1 large red onion, chopped
- 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
- 1 ripe avocado, peeled and diced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Method
Step One
Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
Step Two
In a large bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, minced garlic, and honey. Add the seasoned chicken breasts and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to an hour.
Step Three
While the chicken is marinating, prepare the Siling Habas Salsa. In a large bowl, combine the cherry tomatoes, chopped siling haba, chopped red onion, diced mango and avocado.
Step Four
Add the remaining olive oil, remaining lime juice, and chopped cilantro to the salsa mix. Stir well and season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
Step Five
Preheat the grill over medium-high heat. Grill the chicken breasts for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and juices run clear.
Step Six
Let the chicken rest for a few minutes after grilling to allow the juices to redistribute.
Step Seven
Serve the grilled chicken with the Siling Habas Salsa on the side or on top, as preferred.
