I’m particularly smitten with this simple yet striking Grilled Kalette with Tahini Dressing recipe and I’d love to share with you why. Inspired by the abundance of fresh produce in the Pacific Northwest and subtly influenced by the flavors of my Japanese heritage, this dish brings me joy not only in its creation but through every crunchy, savory bite.

Grilled Kalette with Tahini Dressing

A Melange of Flavor and Health in One Dish

Firstly, there’s the tasteful harmony that is achieved when the natural sweetness of the kalette crispened on a grill meets the slightly nutty flavor of the tahini dressing, balanced perfectly by the refreshing zing of lemon and the subtle sweetness of maple. This recipe, though simple in preparation, is incredibly rich in flavor, creating an experience that I believe every food enthusiast should savor.

But what makes the Grilled Kalette with Tahini Dressing even more appealing is its hefty load of nutritional benefits. Kalettes, being a hybrid of kale and Brussels sprouts, are packed with antioxidants and high in fiber, while tahini, made from sesame seeds, is rich in healthful fats, vitamins, and minerals. This makes the dish not just a treat for the palate, but a boon for your overall health as well.

A Diverse Yet Complementary Palette

In line with dishes akin to Sesame Roasted Kalette Tacos that I’ve concocted in the past, the conceptualization of this dish comes from a similar train of thought. This dish would pair wonderfully with a Spicy Vegan Sushi Bowl, allowing the strength and robustness of the sushi bowl to be softened by the delicate flavors of the grilled kalette dish. This dynamic makes them the perfect pair for a satisfying dinner.

The beauty of working with wholesome ingredients like these is that they inspire so many variations and creative meal ideas. In this Grilled Kalette with Tahini Dressing recipe, every element from the tahini dressing to the pomegranate topping brings something unique to the table, while also working harmoniously together in a symphony of flavors and textures, true to my Pacific Northwest meets Japanese style of cooking.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 pound kalette
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Tahini Dressing:
  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup water (if needed)
  • For the Topping:
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
ALLERGENS: None

Method

Step One

To start off, preheat your grill to medium heat.

Step Two

While the grill is heating up, prepare the kalettes by washing them thoroughly. Then, toss the kalettes in a bowl with the olive oil, salt and pepper. Ensure that they’re properly coated with the mixture.

Step Three

Place the kalettes on the grill and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until they become lightly charred and crispy. Don’t forget to turn them occasionally for even grilling. Once done, remove from the heat and set aside.

Step Four

Proceed onto making the tahini dressing. In a small bowl, combine tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, maple syrup, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt. Stir everything together. If the dressing is too thick, slowly add water until you reach your desired consistency.

Step Five

Once your dressing is ready, drizzle it all over the grilled kalettes. Make sure every piece is well-coated with the dressing.

Step Six

Finally, top the kalettes with the pomegranate seeds and fresh cilantro. Give everything a gentle stir to combine. Your grilled kalettes with tahini dressing is now ready to be served. Enjoy while hot!
