I couldn’t be happier to share one of my favorite dishes, the Grilled Radishes with Rosemary Butter, with readers of Your Gourmet Guru. As a proud New Yorker who thrives on diversity, it only makes sense that this unique, vegetable-based recipe would catch my eye and make its way into my kitchen. From the crunch of perfectly grilled radishes to the rich, aromatic blend of rosemary and butter, this dish captures the essence of New York’s diverse culinary scene. It’s unexpected, bold, and beautifully simple, just like the city I call home.
A Classical Twist on a Classic Veggie
Radishes are a bite-sized, colorful staple of many meals, but they’re seldom the star of the show. In Grilled Radishes with Rosemary Butter, this crunchy veggie gets its moment in the spotlight. Radishes lose their pungent bite when grilled — much like how an actor transforms on stage — unveiling a subtle sweetness, enhanced by a hint of smokiness.
This radish recipe could stand alongside and complement other BBQ staples such as Grilled Kale Potato Salad or Flank Steak with Chimichurri from neighboring cuisines – bringing a unique edge to the table. It’s also affordable and easy to make, giving you more time to enjoy the company of friends and family.
Health Meets Gourmet
Nutrition is always kept in mind when I choose my recipes, and this one is a clear winner. Radishes contain compounds called isothiocyanates which studies suggest have anti-cancer, anti-fungal, and detoxifying properties. They are also an outstanding source of vitamin C – for both immune support and glow-getting skin. Not to mention, the olive oil in this dish is rich in heart-healthy monosaturated fats, allowing you to savor every bite, knowing you are nourishing your body.
The unsalted butter and fresh rosemary combine to create a garden-fresh flavor, while the garlic gives a subtle kick to match the black pepper. One thing’s for sure, the Grilled Radishes with Rosemary Butter recipe brings out the very best of these humble ingredients.
I hope you enjoy making and eating this dish as much as I do. It’s another flavorful example of the incredible variety and culinary versatility New York offers to chefs of all kinds.
What You’ll Need
- 18 whole radishes
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- Sea salt to taste
- Cracked black pepper to taste
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Method
Step One
First, preheat your grill to a medium-high heat. This will ensure that your radishes get a nice, crispy outer layer.
Step Two
Next, clean the radishes and trim off the ends. Toss them in the olive oil until they’re well coated, then season them with sea salt and cracked black pepper to taste.
Step Three
Place the radishes on the grill. Let them cook for about 3-4 minutes, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes. They should be charred on the outside and soft on the inside.
Step Four
While the radishes are grilling, start preparing the rosemary butter. Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan, then add the finely chopped fresh rosemary and minced garlic. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes to allow the flavours to meld together.
Step Five
Once the radishes are done grilling, take them off the grill and place them in a large bowl. Pour the rosemary butter over the top of the radishes and toss to combine. Add additional sea salt or cracked black pepper to taste if needed.
Step Six
Finally, serve the grilled radishes while warm, ensuring each serving gets a generous amount of the rosemary butter. Enjoy as a delightful and unique side dish.
