When it comes to sweet, simple, and downright delicious, there’s nothing quite like my recipe for Grilled Tambis. As a kid growing up in Nebraska, I fell in love with the nature’s bounty that surrounded us. We didn’t have Tambis back home, but this fruit-focused dish reminds me of those blissful summer afternoons spent picking apples from our orchard, filling up baskets until our arms trembled with the weight.

Grilled Tambis Recipe

A Taste of Tropics Meets Comfort Cuisine

The Grilled Tambis, also known as Macopa or Rose apple, is an ode to those cherubic memories and my fervor for Midwestern comfort, with a dash of tropical exoticness. If you relish piquant fruit pies or grilled peaches, this recipe will charm your taste buds. Its flavors blend seamlessly with most summer dishes, making it an excellent counterpart to Pulled Pork Sandwiches or a cooling contrast against spicy grills.

Health and Happiness In Every Bite

But this isn’t just a dish that’s all about the palate – it’s also about promoting health. The protagonist of this dish, Tambis, is a low-calorie fruit filled with essential vitamins and minerals. It is known for its antioxidant properties that may provide health benefits such as combating inflammation and promoting heart health. The honey, lemon juice, and the sprinkling of nutmeg and cinnamon, not only work together to enhance the flavor, but they are also natural immunity boosters.

And let’s not forget the Greek yogurt. With its high protein content, it is a wonderful addition to this recipe, adding a hint of creaminess and balance against the fruity and spiced Tambis.

This recipe though simple, encompasses so much – memories of home, an affection for comfort cooking, the joy of fresh produce, and the fulfilment of creating something that’s not just tasty, but also health-benefitting. The Grilled Tambis does just this, embracing the spirit of home-cooked, heartland food.

What You’ll Need

  • 6 Tambis (Macopa or Rose apple)
  • 4 tablespoons of Honey
  • 2 tablespoons of Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Cinnamon Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Nutmeg
  • 1 cup of Greek Yogurt for serving
  • 6 sprigs of Mint for garnish
ALLERGENS: Honey, Greek Yogurt

Method

Step One

First, preheat your grill to medium heat. While waiting, wash the tambis thoroughly; pat them dry and cut in half.

Step Two

Next, in a medium bowl, mix together the honey, lemon juice, cinnamon powder, and nutmeg. Stir until well combined.

Step Three

Dip the cut side of the tambis in the honey mixture, ensuring they’re well coated.

Step Four

Place the tambis cut side down onto the grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they’re nicely charred and tender. Ensure you are turning them occasionally to prevent burning.

Step Five

When ready, remove tambis from the grill and let them cool for a moment.

Step Six

Serve the grilled tambis with a dollop of Greek yogurt on top and garnish with a sprig of mint. Drizzle any remaining honey mixture over the top.

Step Seven

Enjoy as an appetizer, snack, or dessert! This recipe is a unique and tasty way to enjoy the subtle sweetness of tambis (macopa). Enjoy your Grilled Tambis!
