When I first whipped up a batch of Guava Ice Cream, it was an instant hit in my Midwestern household that usually favors hearty stews and casseroles. The tantalizing blend of tropical flavor mixed with the sweetness of cream and the tang of lemon juice was something that seemed so exotic and unique amidst our tried-and-true comfort food staples. Prepare to journey with me to a little corner of tropical paradise, through our humble kitchen. We’re making Guava Ice Cream folks!
Start by picturing this… scoops of thick, creamy, sweet-tart guava ice cream melting slowly under the last bright rays of a summer sunset. The vibrant pink color is enough to capture your attention, but the taste… oh the taste! It’s an absolute game-changer.
The Magic of Guava
Perhaps I should note the real secret behind making this ice cream so special. Of course, it’s the guava! Guavas are not just delicious, they’re actually superfoods carrying a wealth of health benefits! Jam-packed with vitamins A and C, guavas are great for boosting your immunity. They are also a rich source of dietary fiber which aids digestion. Incorporating guava in our regular diet can do wonders for our wellness source.
A Beautiful Addition to Your Dessert Repertoire
Guava Ice Cream makes an excellent companion to light, fruity sponge cakes or as a counterbalance to the richness of a decadent chocolate torte. It’s a great twist to your conventional vanilla or chocolate ice cream served a la mode-style with warm pastries. If you’re familiar with Neapolitan ice cream, which is a combination of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, you might consider swapping out the strawberry layer with guava for a tropical twist on a classic.
Even as a standalone dessert, this recipe is a champion. Be it at your backyard barbecue or an upscale dinner party, Guava Ice Cream fits right in. The sight of this colorful, creamy delight is sure to spark joy and anticipation in your guests.
So, are you ready to step outside our comfort zone a little and serve up some Guava Ice Cream at your next family gathering? With its refreshing flavor and outstanding health benefits, it already looks like a winner to me. Enjoy the process and the transformation your kitchen will undergo when the tropical aroma of guava fills the air!
What You’ll Need
- 1 1/2 cups fresh guava pulp
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
Method
Step One
To begin, puree the guavas to make the fresh guava pulp. You should have about 1 1/2 cups of guava pulp when you’re done.
Step Two
In a large bowl, combine the guava pulp, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and corn syrup. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. This should take around 3-5 minutes.
Step Three
In a separate bowl, mix the heavy cream, whole milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined, then gradually add this mixture into the guava mixture.
Step Four
Once the ingredients are thoroughly combined, transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to churn the mixture until it resembles the texture of soft serve.
Step Five
Transfer the churned ice cream to a lidded container. Press a piece of wax or parchment paper against the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming.
Step Six
Finally, freeze the ice cream for at least 4 hours, or until it is firm enough to scoop. Serve the guava ice cream in bowls or cones and enjoy!
