What You’ll Need
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (110° to 115°)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Method
Step One
Begin by stirring in the 2 tablespoons of active dry yeast into the warm water (110° to 115°), let it sit for 5 minutes.
Step Two
In a large bowl, mix the oil, sugar and the yeast mixture from step one. Beat one egg and add it into the bowl together with the salt.
Step Three
Gradually, start adding the flour into the mixture you just made. Add in just enough flour until a soft dough is formed that is easy to handle.
Step Four
Start kneading the dough on a lightly floured surface. Keep kneading for about 5-8 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Step Five
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, which should take about an hour.
Step Six
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 12-15 pieces. Shape each piece into a bun and place onto a greased baking sheet. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
Step Seven
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Bake the dough in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Step Eight
Remove from the oven and brush the hot dog buns with the melted unsalted butter. Let your buns cool before serving. Enjoy!
