Upon first sip, your senses are immediately awakened with the intoxicating, floral aroma of the Jasmine Flower Tea. This unique, fruit-infused tea has been steeped in tradition and holds a beloved spot in my recipe collection. A refreshing summer staple, its delicate marriage of flavors takes you on a journey to the heart of the South, and more specifically, to my coastal hometown of Charleston, South Carolina.

Jasmine Flower Tea

Nostalgia In A Cup

Replete with honey’s gentle sweetness, the bright zesty notes of lemon, and the subtle lingering fragrance of jasmine and green tea, this recipe for Jasmine Flower Tea stirs up images of my childhood. This is the taste of long summer afternoons spent discovering the joy of southern specialties in the heart of our family’s kitchen.

Healthful Indulgence

But it’s not just the nostalgic taste that brings me back to this delightfully refreshing tea. Dissimilar to my love for biscuits and fried chicken, this fruity libation is also a celebration of health. With each serving, you’re indulging in generous doses of antioxidants from green tea and the soothing properties of honey. Plus, the added lemon lends a dose of vitamin C.

Apart from the health boost, the tea’s light floral aroma has a calming effect that allies you against the stresses of daily life. And the addition of mint sprigs, though optional, provides an invigorating, cool finish that leaves you rejuvenated.

Culinary Pairing Ideas

While Jasmine Flower Tea is a delight in its own right, pairing it with other dishes elevates your culinary experience. Try it alongside traditional Southern dishes like skillet biscuits with bacon and maple bourbon butter for a delightful contrast. It also pairs wonderfully with savory seafood dishes, like a refreshing low country boil, one of Charleston’s classics, adding a light, refreshing counterpoint to the meal.

Simply put, Jasmine Flower Tea embodies the essence of simple, honest and nourishing food. It’s the kind of recipe that warms both the heart and soul. And I believe that’s what cooking — and life — should be all about.

What You’ll Need

  • 6 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon of dried jasmine flowers
  • 3 bags of green tea
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 sliced lemon
  • 6 fresh mint sprigs (optional)
  • Ice cubes
ALLERGENS: Green tea, honey, lemon, mint

Method

Step One

Bring the 6 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. Once boiling, remove from heat.

Step Two

Add the tablespoon of dried jasmine flowers, 3 green tea bags, half a cup of honey into the hot water. Stir gently until the honey is fully dissolved.

Step Three

Allow the mixture to steep for about 5-10 minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the flavour will be. Adjust to your taste.

Step Four

After steeping, strain the tea to remove the jasmine flowers and tea bags. Allow the tea to cool to room temperature. You can put it in the fridge to cool faster if desired.

Step Five

Once the tea has cooled, add the sliced lemon and the mint sprigs to a large pitcher. Pour the jasmine flower tea over the lemon and mint.

Step Six

Add ice cubes to your liking, stir well, and your Jasmine Flower Tea is ready to be served! Enjoy this refreshing and fragrant beverage.
