I’ve always had a soft spot for recipes that take a simple ingredient and elevate it to new heights. Koseret Infused Olive Oil does just that. It’s a humble recipe with a knockout flavor profile that works seamlessly with many dishes in a plethora of ways. This is definitely a much-loved recipe in my kitchen in the Rockies.
Ingredients That Shine
Take the garlic in this recipe, for example. When you crush it, it releases a compound called allicin, which has been linked to a variety of health benefits, including improved heart health and cholesterol levels. Throw in the citrus zests, and you’re adding a vibrant fresh note while also bringing in a healthy dose of vitamin C.
But the real star here is the koseret. This fragrant herb is native to Ethiopia, and it imparts a subtle, tea-like aroma to the oil. It’s a flavor you can’t find anywhere else, and it makes this recipe something truly special.
A Flavor That Complements
While Koseret Infused Olive Oil is a standout in its own right, it doesn’t try to overshadow your dishes. Instead, it adds a touch of sophistication to everything it graces, working much like a fine wine. It’s a great accompaniment to my favorite game meat dishes and trout recipes. It’s the kind of flavor harmony that any gourmet guru would be proud to claim.
My partner Gordon and I often enjoy this infused oil simply drizzled over warm bread on a chilly evening. The garlicky, herbal notes provide a comforting aroma that fills our home nestled in the Rockies, offering the perfect antithesis to the cold mountain air outside.
Whether you’re perched high in the mountains or nestled in the heart of a bustling city, this recipe for Koseret Infused Olive Oil brings a flavor journey that is both unique and inspiring, an exploratory leap into the uncharted territories of gourmet cooking. And to me, that’s where the fun truly begins.
What You’ll Need
- 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons dried koseret leaves
- 1 clove of garlic, crushed
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
Method
Step One
Start by grinding the dried koseret leaves using a mortar and pestle or a clean coffee grinder until it turns into a fine powder.
Step Two
Take the cup of extra virgin olive oil and pour it into a small saucepan. Warm it over medium heat until it is hot but not smoking.
Step Three
Add in the powdered koseret leaves and the crushed garlic into the hot oil. Turn the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring consistently.
Step Four
Once the oil has simmered, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool completely. This allows the koseret and garlic to thoroughly infuse into the oil.
Step Five
After the oil has cooled, add the orange and lemon zests within the mixture. Allow this to rest for another 15 minutes to allow the citrus zests to infuse their flavor.
Step Six
Strain the oil into a clean glass jar or bottle, removing all the solids. Make sure to store the Koseret Infused Olive Oil in a cool and dark place. It can be used as a unique flavourful in your cooking recipes or salad dressings.
