Why I Love British Lamb and Harissa Burgers

If there’s one thing I’ve come to admire about British cuisine, it’s their remarkable groundedness. The recipe for Lamb and Harissa Burgers is a perfect testament to this. The combination of spicy harissa paste and rich ground lamb creates a flavor profile that brings warmth to the palate. This recipe serves up a delightful fusion that resonates not only with the traditional British love for hearty meat dishes, but also speaks directly to my Spanish and Cuban roots, reminding me of the fiery flavors from home.

Lamb and Harissa Burgers

From Tapas Queen to a Burger Believer

As someone who’s spent a lifetime mastering the art of tapas and floating between Caribbean flavors and Spanish classics, venturing into British flavors felt like a breath of fresh air. Britain’s celebrity chef Jamie Oliver inspired me to discover the depth of flavor in seemingly simple ingredients, as demonstrated in these Lamb and Harissa Burgers.

This recipe has become one of my favorites. It’s more than just a burger; it’s a beautiful marriage of flavors that dance on your tongue. The rich, savory lamb, combined with the bold, fiery heat of harissa and fragrant hints of ground cumin and coriander – it’s a perfect symphony in a bun. And let’s not forget the crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and melted cheese (if you choose to indulge), creating a delightful contrast of textures and flavors, making each bite an unforgettable experience.

An Alluring Adventure for the Palate

When it comes to pairing this burger with other dishes, the options are endless. It work well with traditional British sides like fat chips or roasted root vegetables. But, keeping my roots in mind, I also love to serve it alongside spicy patatas bravas or Spanish-style grilled vegetables. It’s versatile, suiting a laid-back weekend brunch or a dinner party with friends.

What truly fascinates me about the Lamb and Harissa Burgers recipe is how it’s transformed my understanding of burgers. It reminds me that a simple dish, when treated with respect and combined with the right spices and quality ingredients, becomes an extraordinary meal that caters not only to the appetite but also to the soul.

So, next time you fancy a burger, consider going the British way with the Lamb and Harissa Burgers. It’s not only a great way to explore a different cuisine, but also a chance to travel through the flavors that make it amazing. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 pounds of ground lamb
  • 6 teaspoons of harissa paste
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons of ground coriander
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 large red onion, finely chopped
  • 6 fresh burger buns
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 6 lettuce leaves
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 6 slices of cheese (optional)
ALLERGENS: Gluten, Dairy

Method

Step One

Combine 2 pounds of ground lamb, 6 teaspoons of harissa paste, 2 teaspoons of ground cumin, 2 teaspoons of ground coriander, 2 cloves of minced garlic, freshly ground black pepper and salt to taste in a large mixing bowl. Mix everything together until well combined.

Step Two

Form the meat mixture into 6 evenly sized patties. Make sure not to overwork the meat while doing this, so that the burgers stay juicy.

Step Three

Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties to the pan.

Step Four

Cook the patties on one side for about 5 minutes, or until they reach a nice golden color. Flip the patties and cook on the other side for another 5 minutes, until they’re cooked to your desired level.

Step Five

Remove the patties from the pan and let them rest for a few minutes. While the patties are resting, toast the burger buns on the pan, cut side down, until they reach a nice golden color.

Step Six

To assemble the burgers, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a burger patty, a slice of cheese (if using), some chopped red onion, and a slice of tomato. Finally, top with the other half of the bun.

Step Seven

Serve the burgers immediately and enjoy! They go well with a side of fries, or a fresh salad.
