Why I Love Chilean Lamb Barbecue

I have always been drawn to the culinary arts and the endless world of flavors each cuisine presents. One such dish that I’ve fallen in love with recently is the Lamb Barbecue, a Chilean recipe that is both vibrant in taste and hearty in its sustenance. As someone who’s grown up with Southern fare, I appreciate a good barbecue, and the Chilean variant has its unique charm that won my taste buds over.

A Touch of Southern Tradition

Being a Southern food enthusiast, I’ve always adored the nature of barbecue dishes. The Lamb Barbecue’s garlicky and herbaceous aroma is reminiscent of comforting Sunday dinners that consist of biscuits, fried chicken, and everything in between. This recipe made me realize that great barbecues aren’t exclusive to the South. Its sweetness from the peppers, combined with the rustic flavors of lamb, makes it somewhat parallel to our coastal seafood dishes I’ve grown fond of – each component shining while seamlessly coming together.

The Global Influence of Barbecue

Barbecue, as a cooking method, has deep roots in various cultures, making it a worldwide culinary phenomenon. From Carolina Pulled Pork to Texas-style beef brisket, each region has its unique spin. Having mastered the art of barbecue in my Southern kitchen, I’ve always been intrigued by how other cultures approach this age-old cooking style. The Chilean Lamb Barbecue’s flavor profile is somewhat reminiscent of the Rosemary and Garlic Lamb Chops by Bobby Flay. With a little bit of preparation and patience, you can achieve an exceptional feast that is bursting with flavors.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings

This rustic Lamb Barbecue is a standalone meal, but it also works beautifully with a side of fresh garden salad for a burst of freshness against the robust flavors. Additionally, it pairs well with bold red wines like a Chilean Carmenère or Cabernet Sauvignon, which stand up excellently to the rich, meaty flavors of the lamb. For a complete Chilean-inspired feast, you might enjoy adding a traditional Chilean empanada recipe to your meal preparation.

In the world of gastronomy, discovering and trying out recipes like this Lamb Barbecue is a testament to the diverse beauty of food. It offers a connection to different cultures through taste and tradition, and I believe that’s the best part of being a food enthusiast – the endless flavors, the art of cooking, and the joy of sharing it with others.

What You’ll Need

  • 3 pounds of lamb cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh oregano, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons of coarse sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons of black pepper
  • 1 cup of red wine
  • 2 red bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 green bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 1 cup of barbecue sauce of choice
ALLERGENS: Garlic, wine

Method

Step One

Firstly, place the lamb pieces in a large bowl or dish. Drizzle the olive oil over the lamb, ensuring all pieces are evenly coated.

Step Two

Combine the minced garlic, chopped fresh rosemary, chopped fresh oregano, coarse sea salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Mix all these ingredients well, then evenly rub this mixture all over the lamb pieces.

Step Three

Next, pour the red wine over the lamb pieces. Mix well to ensure that all pieces are soaking in the wine. Allow the lamb to marinate in the refrigerator for at least two hours, or preferably overnight.

Step Four

While the lamb is marinating, slice the red and green bell peppers as well as the onions. Set these aside for later.

Step Five

Preheat your barbecue to medium-high heat. Remove the lamb from the marinade and place it on the heated grill. Cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until it reaches the desired level of doneness.

Step Six

During the last couple of minutes of grilling, place the sliced bell peppers and onions on the grill as well. Grill these until they are slightly charred and softened.

Step Seven

To finish, brush the grilled lamb pieces and vegetables generously with your selected barbecue sauce. Remove from the grill and let the meat rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your flavorful Lamb Barbecue.
