Why I Love Danish Lamb Chops with Thyme Sauce
There’s something truly heartwarming about the Danish recipe, Lamb Chops with Thyme Sauce. Not only is it rich in flavor and aroma, but it’s also a dish that blends my love for introducing new global inspirations into my Californian cuisine, and my affinity for wholesome, home-cooked meals. This delightful one-pot wonder will undoubtedly evoke the same sense of hygge, or coziness, that it does in its native Denmark.
The Inspiration Behind the Recipe
When it comes to exploring global cuisines, I’ve always admired celebrity Danish chef Trine Hahnemann for her honest Scandinavian home cooking style. Her approach to cooking, centered around family, simplicity, and enjoyment, mirrors my own culinary philosophy. I may not have a specific muse for every recipe, but Hahnemann’s rustic Danish cooking undoubtedly inspired these lamb chops with thyme sauce.
A Unique Fusion of Flavors
Fusing hearty Danish cuisine with a touch of West Coast flair is what makes this recipe unique. The succulent lamb chops, blanketed by a flavorful thyme-infused sauce, evoke comforting homecooked meals my family loves. Yet the addition of bright flavors such as fresh thyme and red wine elevates it to a gastronomic delight worthy of even the most gourmet California kitchen.
Pairing Possibilities
This recipe is somewhat reminiscent of the classic American comfort dish, lamb stew. But it brings an exquisite culinary twist with hints of wine country-inspired flavors. Think of what you might serve with a hearty American stew, but consider adding a leafy green salad for a touch of Californian lightness – think arugula, goat cheese, and roasted beets. A crusty whole grain bread will also compliment the rich thyme sauce wonderfully.
Our Lamb Chops with Thyme Sauce is a recipe that captures the essence of wholesome gourmet cooking – it’s hearty comfort food with a worldly influence and a local twist. Once you try it, I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it just like I have.
What You’ll Need
- 12 Lamb chops
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoon Olive oil
- 2 medium Onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoon Fresh thyme, or 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 3 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 cup Red wine
- 2 cups Chicken broth
- 2 tablespoon Butter
- 2 tablespoon All-purpose flour
Method
Step One
First, season the lamb chops with salt and pepper according to your taste.
Step Two
Heat the olive oil in a large frypan over medium-high heat. Add the lamb chops and cook for about 3-4 minutes each side, until they are nicely browned. Once done, remove the chops from the pan and set them aside.
Step Three
In the same pan, add the chopped onions and cook for about 3 minutes, or until they become translucent. Then, add the fresh or dried thyme, and minced garlic. Continue to cook for another minute, stirring continuously.
Step Four
Now, pour in the red wine, making sure to scrape the bottom of the pan to incorporate all the flavours. Let the wine reduce by half, which should take about 2-3 minutes.
Step Five
Add the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 12-15 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced by half.
Step Six
In a separate bowl, mix together butter and flour to make a paste then whisk this into the sauce. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper if necessary.
Step Seven
Bring the lamb chops back to the pan and cook for a further 3-4 minutes, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness. Baste the chops with the sauce occasionally.
Step Eight
Finally, serve the lamb chops hot, drizzled generously with the thyme sauce. Enjoy your Lamb Chops with Thyme Sauce!
