What You’ll Need
- 12 Fresh Basil Leaves
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 1/2 Cups Vodka
- 1 1/2 Lemons, Zested
- Ice Cubes
- 6 Lemon Slices, for Garnish
Method
Step One
Start by placing the fresh basil leaves in a large cocktail shaker. Add sugar on top of the basil leaves.
Step Two
Use a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon to muddle together the basil and the sugar. This process will crush the basil leaves into the sugar causing them to release their oil which infuses the sugar with the flavor of basil.
Step Three
Add the fresh lemon juice to the shaker. Then, pour in the vodka. Lastly, add the zest of one and a half lemons into the shaker.
Step Four
Fill the shaker with ice cubes. Close the shaker and vigorously shake the mixture for about 30 seconds. This process will chill the cocktail and each ingredient will mix thoroughly with one another.
Step Five
Strain the cocktail into martini glasses to separate the solids from the liquid. Once done, garnish each martini with a lemon slice.
Enjoy your Lemon Basil Martini chilled.
