A Seafood Love Affair

As a native of Portland, Maine, my love for New England seafood is ingrained. That’s why today, I’m particularly excited to share with you one of my absolute favorite dishes, the Lemon Ironbark Rubbed Grilled Salmon. Boasting an incredible blend of flavors, this dish brings you closer to the gusty dunes of the Atlantic coast with every mouthful, simultaneously offering you a delectable-tasting and healthy meal.

A Healthy, Fiery Feast

Lemon Ironbark Rubbed Grilled Salmon is a healthy dish that does not compromise on flavor intensity. The omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon provide a myriad of health benefits, including promoting heart health, enhancing memory and cognition, and supporting joint health. Plus, cooking it on the grill is a healthier alternative to frying, ensuring the salmon retains its nutrients and richness.

Furthermore, the inclusion of lemon zest and juice in this recipe loved by yours truly does not just add tanginess; it also aids in digestion, and is a good source of vitamin C which boosts immunity.

Then comes the Ironbark smoked salt, this unique ingredient gives the salmon a special, smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with the acidity of lemon, while infusing the fish with beneficial minerals like potassium and calcium. It’s a taste fusion reminiscent of ocean depths and homely barbeque nights combined.

A Versatile Centerpiece

This grilled salmon dish is a favorite at family dinners. For side dishes, my two wonderful daughters, Erin and Samantha, and I particularly enjoy pairing it with a fresh, vibrant salad during the summer months. In winters, a warm potato chowder or a green bean casserole is its partner in culinary crime.

This recipe also finds its familiar roots in other dishes I have loved creating, like our family’s go-to salmon pinwheels, and shares similarity in flavor profiles with the treasured Grilled Branzino with Rosemary Vinaigrette. This goes on to highlight how remarkably versatile and well-appreciated the combination of citrus and seafood truly is.

So try it for yourself and see, the Lemon Ironbark Rubbed Grilled Salmon is one dish that seamlessly combines the freshness of the Atlantic, the warmth of a home-cooked meal, and the health benefits of its key ingredients, to create a culinary delight that each of your taste buds will appreciate and remember with fondness.

What You’ll Need

  • 6 salmon fillets
  • 2 tablespoons of Ironbark smoked salt
  • Grated zest and juice of 2 large lemons
  • 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 bunch of fresh dill, chopped
ALLERGENS: Fish, Garlic

Method

Step One

Let’s start with preparing the salmon fillets. Rinse them under cold water and pat dry using paper towels.

Step Two

In a bowl, combine the Ironbark smoked salt, grated lemon zest, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, fresh ground black pepper, honey and minced garlic. Mix all the ingredients well to create a marinade.

Step Three

Lay the salmon fillets in a flat dish. Pour over the prepared marinade, making sure all the fillets are thoroughly coated. Cover the dish and leave it in the refrigerator to marinate for at least one hour.

Step Four

Preheat the grill to medium heat. Once it’s hot, place the marinated salmon on the grill, skin side down. Cook each side for about 4-5 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork. Be careful to not overcook it.

Step Five

While the salmon is grilling, chop the fresh dill thoroughly. When the salmon is cooked to your liking, remove it from the grill and sprinkle with the chopped fresh dill before serving.

Step Six

Finally, serve your Lemon Ironbark Rubbed Grilled Salmon while hot. This recipe pairs wonderfully with a fresh green salad or grilled vegetables for a delectable meal.
