I’ve been a New Yorker my whole life, grew up amidst the foodie havens of the Big Apple. Over the years, I’ve tasted, tested, and tried a wide variety of cuisines and dishes. But among all the recipes I’ve worked with, one that stands close to my heart is the Lulo Fruit Salad Recipe.

Lulo Fruit Salad Recipe

A Tribute to Freshness

This refreshing Lulo Fruit Salad Recipe is a delightful blend of some of my favorite fruits: lulo, strawberries, pineapple, banana, and orange. In a bowl full of these juicy delights, drenched in pure honey and sprinkled with minutely chopped fresh mint leaves, one could truly taste the essence of freshness. The added crunch of toasted coconut flakes and the smooth texture of Greek yogurt make this dish multifaceted, a sensory riot of sorts.

Health Benefits

Not just a feast for the eyes and palate, this intriguing salad is packed with several health benefits. The medley of fruits is high in vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants, contributing to enhanced digestion, better immunity, and even weight management. Honey, a natural sweetener is known for its antibacterial properties and the ability to reduce allergies. Mint leaves help in digestion and give a refreshing aftertaste. Furthermore, Greek yogurt is protein-rich and coconut flakes provide healthy fats.

Sharing the heartwarming connection I share with this dish, being an ardent lover of fruit salads, I am reminded of the famous Kale and Mixed Fruit Salad recipe. The Lulo Fruit Salad, however, brings its unique touch with the rare Lulo fruit, an exotic addition to the usual roster of fruits. It’s the perfect companion to brunch favorites like Avocado Toast or even standalone as a mid-day snack or post-workout meal.

My journey from the bustling bistros of Broadway to the far-flung farms where I source my ingredients is encapsulated in this airy, vibrant, delicious Lulo Fruit Salad Recipe. Every bite, to me, is part of an ongoing culinary journey, a tribute to New York’s diverse food culture, and a nod to healthier living.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups of peeled and diced Lulo fruits
  • 1 cup of diced strawberries
  • 1 cup of cubed pineapple
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1 cup of peeled and segmented oranges
  • 2 tablespoons of pure honey
  • 1 teaspoon of finely chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of toasted coconut flakes (optional)
ALLERGENS: Strawberries, pineapple, banana, oranges, honey, Greek yogurt, coconut flakes

Method

Step One

Start by preparing your fruits. Thoroughly wash all your fruits under running water. For the lulo fruits, cut off both ends and slice them in half. Use a spoon to scoop out the pulp, then dice it into small pieces. Also, peel and segment the oranges, cut strawberries and pineapple into cubes. Slice the banana as well.

Step Two

Once all fruits are properly prepared and chopped, combine all of them into a large salad bowl. Toss them together lightly to mix all the different flavors and colors.

Step Three

After mixing, it’s time to sweeten your fruit salad. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of pure honey all over the fruits in the bowl. This would help bring out the natural sweetness of the fruits and also provide an additional flavor. Do another mix to ensure the honey is well distributed.

Step Four

Next, sprinkle the finely chopped fresh mint leaves over the top of the fruit salad. This not only adds a hint of freshness and aroma but also enhances the overall visual appeal of the salad.

Step Five (Optional)

If you want to add another dimension of flavor and texture to your fruit salad, you can add a topping. Serve the fruit salad with a cup of Greek yogurt on top. This would contribute a creamy texture and slightly tart flavor that complements the sweet and tart fruits.

Step Six (Optional)

For a final touch and crunch, garnish the fruit salad with toasted coconut flakes. Simply sprinkle them over the top before serving.

Step Seven

Now your lulo fruit salad is ready to serve. It can be consumed immediately or chilled in the refrigerator for a while before serving. Enjoy this refreshing, healthy, and delicious salad as a snack, side dish, or dessert.
