Let me share with you the secrets behind my beloved Mizuna and Pear Soup recipe. This unique blend of ingredients captures a harmonious alliance between the gritty liveliness of Southern cuisine and the underrated ethereal delicacy of French gastronomy.

Mizuna and Pear Soup

The Roots of this Recipe

Like my beignets and éclairs, my take on this dish is finely calibrated to reflect my Creole roots and French lineage. While it might seem unconventional, I believe it’s in the fusion of flavors where the magic happens. Inspired by the zesty warmth of Louisiana soups and borrowing the sophisticated profile of French potages, I present to you my version of a comfort dish — The Mizuna and Pear soup.

Nutrition Interlaced with Fine Dining

Nutrition isn’t typically the first thing that springs to mind when most people think about gourmet cooking. However, this Mizuna and Pear Soup recipe echoes my steadfast belief that healthy doesn’t necessarily mean boring. The mizuna greens are not only a refreshing divergence from the usual greens you include in your diet but are also an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins A, C and K. On the other hand, pears come with their own bundle of health benefits, including fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. To top it off, our choice of low-sodium chicken stock grants us a tasty yet healthier alternative.

A Perfect Dinner Companion

This soup makes for a fantastic opener for any meal. If you’re planning a full-course menu, consider pairing this Mizuna and Pear Soup with a hearty entrée like Creole jambalaya or even a succulent Duck à l’Orange to really impress your guests! Alternatively, this soup could very well stand alone as a satisfying light meal accompanied by some fresh, crusty bread.

What You’ll Need

  • 4 cups of chicken stock
  • 2 cups of Mizuna greens
  • 2 pears, peeled and chopped
  • 1 white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
ALLERGENS: Chicken, Garlic, Milk

Method

Step One

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and crushed garlic to the pot and sauté until the onions become translucent.

Step Two

Add the peeled and chopped pears to the pot. Sauté the pears with the onion and garlic until the pears become soft.

Step Three

Put the Mizuna greens in the pot, stirring them into the mixture of pears, onions, and garlic. Continue to sauté until the greens wilt.

Step Four

Pour the chicken stock into the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until all the ingredients are well-combined and the flavors are infused in the stock.

Step Five

Use an immersion blender to puree the soup until it’s smooth. If you do not have an immersion blender, you can also carefully transfer the soup to a traditional blender to puree it.

Step Six

Once the soup is pureed and smooth, add the heavy cream to the pot. Stir well to combine the cream with the soup.

Step Seven

Add salt and pepper to taste. Let the soup simmer for a few more minutes so the seasoning can blend in.

Step Eight

Serve the Mizuna and Pear Soup hot. Enjoy this flavorful, creamy soup as a perfect starter for any meal.
