As a professional food blogger with roots deeply etched in the taste palates of Louisiana, I hold a special place in my heart for recipes that intertwine the simplicity of fresh ingredients with an explosion of flavors. Today, I am more than excited to share with you a recipe that does just that – the delectably sweet Nectarine and Raspberry Crisp.

Living in an era where the boom of fast food chains has somehow obscured the sincerest forms of culinary art, it gives me sheer joy as I dive into the archaic practice of using fresh fruits as the base for a dessert. The flavor profile of this Nectarine and Raspberry Crisp is a beautiful medley of sweet, tart, and a little bit of zing from the lemon juice that is sure to make your senses tingle.

Nectarine and Raspberry Crisp

Transporting Back to the Roots

Every time I prepare this Nectarine and Raspberry Crisp, the aroma that fills the kitchen reminds me of the bustling farmer’s markets in New Orleans, my home town. The vivid recollection of the freshly harvested sun-kissed nectarines and the ruby-like raspberries carefully arranged in baskets transports me back to my childhood days where I would help my grandmother prepare her famous berry crunch, a recipe familiar to this one.

A Sweet Yet Healthy Treat

Not only does this recipe taste divine, but it also provides nutritional benefits as the main ingredients, nectarines and raspberries, are both low in calories and packed with essential nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants. They can help to improve digestion, boost immunity and promote skin health. Furthermore, the fiber-rich oats in this recipe helps in maintaining heart health and regulating blood sugar levels.

Whether you’re enjoying it as an endnote to a hearty Sunday casserole meal, or as a warm treat on a cozy winter evening, the Nectarine and Raspberry Crisp tastes amazing nonetheless. Its evolution of flavors with the softness of the nectarines, tartness of the raspberries, and the slight crunch of the oat crumble is what makes it a favorite in my book. Why not try it for yourself?

What You’ll Need

  • 4 cups of fresh nectarines, pitted and sliced
  • 1 cup of fresh raspberries
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cut into pieces
ALLERGENS: Wheat, Gluten, Oats

Method

Step One

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Next, grease an 8-inch square baking dish.

Step Two

In a large bowl, combine the fresh nectarines, fresh raspberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Stir until all the fruit is coated with sugar and the lemon juice. Pour this fruit mixture into your prepared baking dish.

Step Three

In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, packed brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

Step Four

Next, add the unsalted butter to your oat mixture. Use your hands to mix the butter into the dry ingredients, forming a crumbly topping. Note that there shouldn’t be any dry flour left; the butter should thoroughly moisten the dry mixture.

Step Five

Pour the crumble topping evenly over the fruit in the baking dish. Press it down lightly to compact it.

Step Six

Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the fruit mixture is bubbling.

Step Seven

Allow the crisp to cool for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy this Nectarine and Raspberry Crisp warm, perhaps with a side of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
