There is no denying the magic in a dish that brings together the unexpected, and the New Zealand Spinach and Feta Cheese Pizza manages to do just that. It’s not often you see pizza topped with fresh fruits, but once you try it, you’ll understand why I hold this recipe close to my heart. Bursting with flavor and striking the perfect balance between sweet and savory, this culinary creation represents the types of gastronomic adventures I’ve come to love and appreciate in my home city of New York.

New Zealand Spinach and Feta Cheese Pizza

A Twist on a Classic

Just as the NYC food scene dares to be different, this unique take on pizza boldly defies traditional toppings. Crumbled feta cheese and New Zealand spinach serve as the star ingredients, forming a savory base that sets the tone. Fresh fruits – strawberries, kiwi, and pineapple add an unanticipated pop of sweetness, while a sprinkling of dried herbs and plenty of cheese round out the symphony of flavors. Much like the theatrical performances I live for off-stage, this pizza is all about contrast and harmony, drama and subtlety.

Enjoy the Health Benefits

Creating a dish that’s both delicious and nutritious can sometimes feel like quite a feat. But with the New Zealand Spinach and Feta Cheese Pizza, you can enjoy a delightful meal without trading off on health. Full of fiber, calcium, and vitamin C from the spinach and fruits, this pizza transforms your cheat meal into a beneficial feast. With every bite, you’ll nourish your body and indulge your taste buds.

Although this pizza can easily stand on its own, it also pairs wonderfully with a simple, crisp, green salad or a steaming bowl of minestrone soup. Much like the spinach pies found in Greece and the fruit-inspired dishes of Italy, this pizza celebrates the unity of strange bedfellows and becomes an ambassador of cultural amalgamation on the plate.

So here’s to love, life, delicious food, and the joyous exploration of unique flavor combinations that challenge the status quo. A pizza, after all, is not just a pizza when it’s got a story to tell.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 pizza dough, ready made or homemade
  • 1 cup New Zealand spinach, thoroughly washed and dried
  • 2 cups feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 2 cups mixed fresh fruits (strawberries, kiwi, and pineapple), thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
ALLERGENS: Gluten (in pizza dough), Dairy (in feta cheese and mozzarella cheese), Strawberries (in mixed fruit)

Method

Step One

Preheat your oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit (245 degrees Celsius). If you’re using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.

Step Two

Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness. If you’re not using a pizza stone, place the rolled-out dough onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step Three

Brush the surface of the dough generously with olive oil. Then spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle the minced garlic evenly over the sauce.

Step Four

Arrange the New Zealand spinach evenly over the sauce. Then sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese and grated mozzarella cheese over the spinach.

Step Five

Add the sliced mixed fruits over the cheese. Then season the pizza with salt, pepper, dried oregano, and dried basil.

Step Six

Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven. If you’re using a pizza stone, carefully slide the pizza onto the stone. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

Step Seven

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your New Zealand Spinach and Feta Cheese Pizza!
