Orris Root in Homemade Soap recipe

Embracing Nature’s Bounty

Life in the South is nothing if not an ode to earth’s organic splendor. From plates piled high with biscuits and fried chicken to candles flickering with the essence of coastal seafood, nearly everything in my world is inspired by what nature has to offer. And this Orris Root in Homemade Soap recipe pulls from that very essence. The orris root, with its delightful, deep floral fragrance, not only adds a unique spin to your average soap but is also known for its skin softening properties. Orris root is anti-inflammatory and can soothe irritated skin, making it a beneficial addition to any skincare routine.

Nostalgic with a Twist

This homemade soap recipe reminds me of old-fashioned lye soaps that my grandmother used to make. She was someone who believed that the natural world holds remedies and luxuries, often in the same handful of earth. Just like fried chicken isn’t merely chicken, and biscuits aren’t just bread, this homemade soap is more than its list of ingredients. Both soothing and cleansing, utilizing dried berries or floral petals and optional essential oils for scent – it’s a sensory experience that transforms a routine into a ritual.

And can you imagine how enchanting this soap would fit into a Southern-inspired day? You could start the day by washing your face with this soap, then enjoy a breakfast of biscuits and gravy. Follow it up with a seafood lunch, and end with crispy fried chicken for dinner. Each bite, each moment will remind you of the beautifully interwoven relationship between nature’s bounty and Southern living.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 pound of Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • 2 tablespoons of Orris Root Powder
  • 1/4 cup of Dried Berries or Floral Petals
  • 1 teaspoon of Essential Oil for Scent (Optional)
  • Soap Mold
  • 6 Soap Colorants (Optional)
  • Isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle
ALLERGENS: Melt and Pour Soap Base, Orris Root Powder, Dried Berries or Floral Petals, Essential Oil for Scent, Soap Colorants, Isopropyl alcohol

Method

Step One

First and foremost, cut the Melt and Pour Soap Base into cubes. This will make the melting process easier and quicker.

Step Two

Take a pot and put these cubes inside. Heat them over low heat until they have completely melted.

Step Three

Right after the soap base has melted, take it away from the heat. Add the 2 tablespoons of Orris Root Powder into the pot and mix thoroughly until everything is well combined.

Step Four

Once the Orris Root Powder has mixed evenly with the soap base, it’s time to add in the Dried Berries or Floral Petals. Stir it in well so that everything is completely incorporated.

Step Five

Add in the essential oil of your choice, if you choose to. This will give your soap a pleasant scent. Just like with the Orris Root Powder and dried berries or floral petals, make sure to mix well after the oil has been added.

Step Six

If you’re going for a colorful look, you can now add the Soap Colorants. Add them gradually while stirring continuously until you achieve the color you desire.

Step Seven

Pour the soap mixture into your soap mold. You need to be careful during this step to make sure that the soap is evenly distributed in the mold.

Step Eight

To remove any air bubbles that may have formed, spray the soap with an isopropyl alcohol. This step ensures a smooth and professional-looking final product.

Step Nine

Let the soap sit until it’s fully hardened. Once it’s set, your Orris Root Homemade Soap is ready to use! If you wish to gift it, you can wrap it in a beautiful package for a personal touch.
