What You’ll Need

  • 2 teaspoons of dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups of lukewarm water
  • 3 1/2 cups of high-gluten flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • Cornmeal, for dusting

Method

Step One

Start the process by dissolving the dry yeast in the lukewarm water and let it sit for about five minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active and ready to be used.

Step Two

In a large mixing bowl, combine the high-gluten flour and salt. Stir well to ensure that the salt is evenly distributed throughout the flour.

Step Three

Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture. Stir everything together until a rough dough forms.

Step Four

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead it for around 10 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic. You may need to add a little more flour if the dough is too sticky.

Step Five

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step Six
