As a food enthusiast hailing from the serene Rocky Mountains, understanding the balance between warmth and flavors is imperative; this knowledge brings me immense joy, particularly when I can incorporate these facets into a delectable brew. Allow me to introduce one of my heartwarming favorites, the Pandan Flower and Lemon Grass Tea. It’s a cup of this aromatic delicacy that becomes my balm on a cold winter’s night or even a quiet companion during the balmy afternoons of summer.

Pandan Flower and Lemon Grass Tea

The Natural Symphony of Ingredients

Let’s start with the pandan flowers – their sweetness imparts an underlying taste that’s reminiscent of somewhat coconut. They’re often used in South East Asian cuisine, more specifically, Thai dishes like pandan chicken. Here, they infuse the tea with a dash of their exotic sweetness. Then, there’s the lemongrass, an ingredient my partner Gordon and I have grown to love. Instantly zesty and refreshing, lemongrass takes this brew to a whole new level of aromatic satisfaction. A generous addition of honey adds its subtle floral tones to the refreshing tanginess of the lemon slices, creating a harmonious symphony of flavors.

A Nourishing Elixir for Mind and Body

Every cup of the Pandan Flower and Lemon Grass Tea is not just soothing to the senses but nourishing to the body. The pandan flowers are known for their antioxidant properties, which can help stave off cellular damage. Lemongrass has numerous health benefits including improving digestion and reducing high blood pressure, not to mention its ability to boost immunity. Let’s not forget the natural goodness of honey and its multitude of benefits, including serving as a healthier alternative to refined sugar. All these healthful attributes are packed into our delightful tea.

Given the lightness and refreshing traits, this tea is the perfect companion to a rich, hearty meal such as my go-to pan-seared trout! It strikes the right balance by not overshadowing the taste of the main dish all the while supplementing it with its inherent subtlety and depth. So, whether it’s a gastronomical delight that demands a delicate balancing act, or just a moment of silent introspection, pour yourself a cup of this Pandan Flower and Lemon Grass tea, and let the flavors seep in.

What You’ll Need

  • 9 cups of water
  • 6 Pandan Flowers
  • 2 Lemon Grass stalks, cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup of Honey
  • 6 thin slices of lemon
ALLERGENS:

Method

Step One

Begin by bringing the 9 cups of water to a boil in a large pot.

Step Two

Add the 6 pandan flowers and the cut lemon grass stalks to the boiling water.

Step Three

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water is infused with the flavors of the pandan flowers and lemon grass.

Step Four

Remove the pot from the heat. Strain the liquids through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove the pandan flowers and lemon grass stalks. Return the liquid to the pot or transfer into a heatproof container.

Step Five

Stir in 1/2 cup of honey into the strained liquids, mixing until it’s fully dissolved. Adjust honey as per your taste preferences. If the tea is too hot, let it cool for a few minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Step Six

Finally, add in the thin slices of lemon. Allow the lemon slices to steep in the hot tea for about 5 minutes.

Step Seven

Your Pandan Flower and Lemon Grass Tea is now ready to serve! It can be enjoyed hot or you may chill it in the refrigerator to serve as a refreshing iced beverage.
