As an aficionado of sweets, walking the savory line is a thrilling adventure. In my food journey, creating a dish that resonates with summer barbecues and southern comfort brings a refreshing wave of creativity. One such treasured discovery is the Paprika Spiced Grilled Corn, a melody of simple ingredients that synergize into a song worthy of any festive gathering.
The Craft of Paprika Spiced Grilled Corn
Much like an artist applying brush strokes onto a canvas, delicately smearing the blend of olive oil and smoked paprika on the corn adds a luscious layer of flavor that accentuates its natural sweetness. Of course, a hint of sugar and the right balance of salt and pepper is magic in bringing forward a complex palette where each bite is anticipation for the next.
The Health in a Husk
One of the reasons I truly cherish the Paprika Spiced Grilled Corn recipe is its nutritive value. Corn is packed with immune-boosting antioxidants, dietary fiber, and energy-rich carbohydrates. Not to mention, olive oil – a cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet, revered for its heart health benefits.
The smoked paprika, known as Capsicum annuum in the botanical world, brings its own nutritional prowess to the table, offering anti-inflammatory properties and aiding in digestion.
The Fusion of Flavors
This recipe is a reminiscent of the infamous Elotes, a traditional Mexican street corn but it holds a French simplicity in its preparation, skipping on the mayo layering and cheese crumbing. It’s not just about the corn here, it’s about the embellishment of flavor that makes it stand out – a trait my Creole roots can definitely agree with. This dish is fantastic alongside barbecue proteins such as pulled pork or even a simple roasted chicken.
I sincerely hope you’ll relish making and enjoying this smoky, slightly sweet Paprika Spiced Grilled Corn as much as I do. Bon Appétit!
What You’ll Need
- 6 ears of corn
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley for garnish
Method
Step One
Start by preheating your grill to medium-high heat. If you’re using a charcoal grill, let the coals burn down until they’re covered with white ash.
Step Two
While the grill is preheating, prepare the corn. Husk the corn and remove any silk. Then, rub each ear of corn with one teaspoon of olive oil, making sure it’s fully coated.
Step Three
In a small bowl, combine the smoked paprika, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together to create your spice rub.
Step Four
Apply the spice rub liberally to each ear of corn, making sure you cover all sides. Use your hands to press the rub into the kernels so it sticks properly.
Step Five
Place the corn on the preheated grill. Cook, turning occasionally, until the corn is tender and charred in spots. This should take around 10 to 15 minutes.
Step Six
Once the corn is cooked to your liking, remove from the grill and transfer to a serving platter.
Step Seven
Finish by sprinkling the fresh chopped parsley over the top of the corn as a garnish. Serve whilst hot and enjoy your Paprika Spiced Grilled Corn!
