There’s something incredibly inviting about a vibrant and fresh Paracress and Tomato Salsa. This dynamic blend of flavors, inspired by a traditional Italian chioggia beet salad my nonna used to make, has fast become one my go-to recipes whenever I’m yearning for a taste of home with a twist. This recipe not only embodies the fresh tangy delights of a traditional salsa, but also encapsulates a hint of my Italian roots and my love for melding together the best of both cuisines.

Paracress and Tomato Salsa

A Healthy Blend Of Bold Flavors

The Paracress and Tomato Salsa, typically used as a condiment, can electrify the most mundane of dishes. What truly sets it apart, besides its bold flavors, are the myriad health benefits they impart. For instance, tomatoes carry an array of nutrients and antioxidants that are thought to help combat several diseases, while cilantro is known for its potential detoxifying qualities.

And how could one ignore the powerful paracress – an herb often overlooked. Fun fact: it’s also known as the toothache plant, due to its pain-relieving properties. But aside from that, paracress also has a ton of substantial nutrients. This includes flavonoids, antioxidants, and vitamins, which can play a crucial role in improving our overall health.

Pairing This Gem With Other Dishes

Serving up the Paracress and Tomato Salsa as part of a meal not only adds a delightful pop of color, but also a zesty kick that heightens flavors. Despite being reminiscent of my nonna’s chioggia beet salad with its freshness and tang, it pairs exceptionally well with all kinds of dishes beyond the Italian cuisine. Think of grilled fish, oven-baked chicken, or alongside the classic tortilla chips. Would you believe me if I told you, I’ve even topped off my spaghetti and meatballs with it on adventurous nights!

So, whether you’re hiking in the great outdoors, hosting a casual get-together, or simply looking to create family traditions just like I did, the Paracress and Tomato Salsa is a recipe worth trying and falling in love with. Enjoy!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup of fresh paracress
  • 3 large tomatoes, diced
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
ALLERGENS:

Method

Step One

Start by preparing your ingredients: dice the tomatoes, finely chop the red onion, jalapenos, and fresh cilantro, and juice the limes. Keep the ingredients separate for now.

Step Two

In a large bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, finely chopped red onion, seeded and finely chopped jalapeno peppers.

Step Three

Add the fresh paracress to the bowl with the other ingredients. Paracress has a unique, peppery flavor, so it will give your salsa a bit of a kick!

Step Four

Add in the chopped fresh cilantro. Then pour in the lime juice, which will give your salsa a refreshing tanginess.

Step Five

Season your salsa with the salt, black pepper, and ground cumin. These spices will enhance the flavors of the other ingredients and give your salsa a bit of warmth and depth.

Step Six

Stir everything together until all the ingredients are well combined. Let your salsa sit for a few minutes before serving, to allow the flavors to meld together. Enjoy your Paracress and Tomato Salsa with your favorite chips or as a topping for tacos or grilled meat!
