There’s nothing quite like a pot of Peppermint Tea, delicately brewed with the beautiful interplay of fresh mint leaves, a touch of honey, and a burst of lemon, to evoke feelings of tranquility and warmth. As a lover of Afro-Southern fusion, I can’t help but draw parallels between this delightful beverage and the many traditional recipes from my West African heritage. Its wonderful character reminds me of those comforting moments in the kitchen with my parents, the air filled with delectable aromas, ladles stirring in unison with heartwarming conversations.

Finding Balance in Each Brew

This recipe, in particular, embraces the notion of the yin and yang. The gentle warmth of the tea juxtaposed with the freshness of the mint leaves creates a balance that is soothing and invigorating all at once. And let’s not forget the little hint of tartness from the lemon slices that adds zest to every sip. It’s this beautiful harmony of flavors that makes Peppermint Tea such a ceaselessly fascinating brew to me.

Health in a Cup

Whenever I prepare this Peppermint Tea, I think about the myriad health benefits packed into every cup. The refreshing mint is not only a palate refresher but is known to aid digestion and reduce headaches. The honey, a natural sweetener, balances the tang of lemon while providing a dose of antioxidants. Moreover, the inclusion of your preferred green or black tea adds to its antioxidant profile and augments the overall health benefits. The tea is great on its own, and it also pairs wonderfully with a number of dishes, especially light meals like salads or savory pastries. • 6 slices of fresh lemon
  • 6 tea bags of your favorite tea (preferably green or black tea)
ALLERGENS: Honey

Method

Step One

Start by boiling the 6 cups of water in a large pot.
