Perfect for rainy afternoons, chilly mornings, or cozy evenings, a slice or two paired with a cup of steaming coffee or a cool glass of milk, can transport you right into the heart of autumn, under a canopied sky painted in hues of red and gold.
The Versatility of Pumpkin Bread
While Pumpkin Bread is a complete delight on its own, it’s versatile enough to complement a variety of dishes. As a slightly sweet bread, it borders between a dessert and a savoury bread, making it apt to pair with both sweet and savoury accompaniments.
For those who appreciate a sweet touch, consider pairing your Pumpkin Bread with dishes that lean towards the sweeter side like a cranberry compote, cinnamon honey butter, or a dollop of whipped cream. You can even serve it as a dessert, lightly toasted with a drizzle of caramel sauce, pecans, and ice cream.
On the savoury end of the spectrum, Pumpkin Bread mimics the characteristics of a cornbread or other quick breads. As such, it can be enjoyed with soups, stews, or roasts, imparting a unique spin to your regular dishes.
So whether you’re someone who delights in the hustle bustle of a kitchen, or someone just trying out their baking skills, get ready to embark on a culinary journey, where the destination is none other than a perfectly baked loaf of Pumpkin Bread.
What You’ll Need
- 1 and 2/3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup of canned pumpkin
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (optional)
- 1/2 cup of raisins (optional)
Method
Step One
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour one 9×5 inch loaf pan.
Step Two
In a large bowl, combine 1 and 2/3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves and 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger. Stir these dry ingredients until they are well mixed.
Step Three
In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of canned pumpkin and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir these wet ingredients until they are well mixed.
Step Four
Gradually add the dry ingredients into the bowl with the wet ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined. If you’d like to include optional ingredients, you can now stir in 1/2 cup of chopped nuts and/or 1/2 cup of raisins to your batter.
Step Five
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for about 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.
