Red Jujube Tea Recipe

A Journey Back to the Essentials

I’ve always been an advocate for simple, wholesome food – tracing back to my roots in NYC where I discovered a love for diverse cuisine. This recipe is testament to that preference for authenticity. The beauty of the Red Jujube Tea Recipe lies not only in its deliciousness, but also in its simplicity. Each ingredient plays a crucial role to create a symphony of flavors in your mouth. A hint of ginger’s spicy warmth, the exotic sweetness of the star anise, and the boldness of the cardamom, collectively create this unique beverage.

The Health Kick

But the appeal extends beyond the realm of purely gustatory pleasures. Health is inevitably entwined with the food we eat. This tea packs in a mighty punch when it comes to health benefits. Red Jujubes are rich in antioxidants, offering a stellar nutritional profile. A cup of this tea can go a long way in boosting your immunity. Pair that with the anti-inflammatory benefits of ginger, and the blood sugar regulation properties of Cinnamon, you have yourself a health potion.

Perfect as a stand-alone, soul-soothing drink, this Red Jujube Tea also pairs beautifully with light dishes. It works particularly well with a slice of New York cheesecake during a quiet afternoon or a cozy night in. This tea brings a hint of the exotic that, to me, encapsulates the spirit of New York – a city that is a melting pot of cultures, cuisines, and experiences.

In conclusion, the Red Jujube Tea Recipe is a confluence of the simple and the exotic; a reflection of my own journey, from a myriad of NYC tastes to the stage. I encourage you to give it a try and experience for yourself, its ability to transport you to a multicultural gastronomic adventure, right from your kitchen.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups of dried red jujubes
  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 cup of rock sugar
  • 6 slices of fresh ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 star anise pods
  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 6 cloves
ALLERGENS: None

Method

Step One

Start by rinsing the 2 cups of dried red jujubes in cold water to remove any dust or impurities.

Step Two

In a large pot, add the 8 cups of water, rinsed jujubes, 1 cup of rock sugar, 6 slices of fresh ginger, 2 cinnamon sticks, 6 star anise pods, 6 cardamom pods, and 6 cloves.

Step Three

Bring the pot to boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for about an hour.

Step Four

After an hour, check on your tea. It should have a rich, reddish-brown color, and the jujubes should be soft and plump. If it’s not there yet, you can let it simmer for another 30 minutes.

Step Five

When your tea is ready, strain it into another pot or large pitcher, removing the spices and jujubes.

Step Six

Serve your Red Jujube Tea hot, or cool it down and refrigerate for a refreshing iced tea option. Enjoy.
